Has anyone replaced their armrest cover? The leather on mine is quite warm. The OEM part is pretty expensive. Other there any options other than a cheap cover?

I'd say use Redline goods but they don't offer one for the Runner.

Have you thought about having it recovered? I did this with my old Pathfinder for about $150 at our local upholstery shop.

I did. That is a bit more than I was looking to spend. I did see a skin on ebay that has instructions for recovering. I may give that a try.

I have this one. It's inexpensive, but feels premium and forearm feels good resting on it.

good suggestion from 1 year+ ago...

I got a redline shifter boot, and they have a program where if they don't currently support your vehicle for one of their products...
you can send them your OEM product, they will cut it up and make a template...
    https://www.redlinegoods.com/notsupported.php
so for the price of an armrest, (+$70) you get a custom leather cover...and they get a template to use for future sales

I like their leather shift boot and workmanship, considering doing this...

I gotta contact them and see if I can send them a new factory one w/o leather...
    those are $235 online

Ignore me. I was wrong because I thought you were talking about the 4wd shifter.

I wish they did. They did a beautiful shift boot for my Camaro. Sensational quality and a very reasonable price for custom stitching.

I’ve always wanted to put something rigid on it so I could use it as a table of sorts…
Write on, better balance quick placement, more durable of course, make shift lil table kinda deal

They have ones made outta tire tread basically but nothing solid

I’ll probably mcgeiver a when needed, slip on, button, velcro thingamajig

We will see if they make an armrest cover I emailed them about making one, I got this:

We don't make the products you inquire about at this time, I'm afraid. However if you'd be willing to work with us on developing it, we'd be more than happy to hook you up with our products at no cost to you.

The manner in which we have devised almost all of our products is that once we had a person interested in getting our boots for their car which we did not support at the time, we'd offer them to send their current, stock items to us to use as templates. Shift and ebrake boots we'll have to unstitch, so they will not be returned. However armrest lids will of course be returned intact. You will also receive everything else you send (trim pieces, trim rings, etc.)

To express our gratitude for such an effort, we do give our leather boots for free, but we require writing an installation write-up (you can find many of those on our site, it's not that much work, just a description of pictures of the steps you took to install them) and sending it to us via email along with some after-installation pictures.

We also require a fully reimbursable deposit before we send out our product to you. Unfortunately it has happened before that we never received the materials we needed and we were out on a set of boots. Therefore it is our policy that before the boots are put in the mail, we need a $70 (per item) deposit via PayPal which will be returned to you in full once we receive the materials we require.

This method has proven to work effectively for both sides and the list of our products can be proof, that this can be done. We can also give you emails of other people who have worked with us an can testify our honesty.

If you are still interested in doing this with us, please be so kind to let us know.

I bought the same one for protection. I’m always hauling something or using my armrest as a desk for my laptop. I often work out of the car. It’s a solid piece. Still no rips or tears and still looks new.

I just ordered the JK Cover from Amazon Prime. I'll get delivery very quickly. I'll report here as to how well I like it. Or not.

I also considered the cover offered by 4RUNNER Lifestyle, but it is very expensive, and I'm not all that cracked up over their logo plastered in white on the top of it. Maybe if they had their logo on there in just all black, it would be more subtle, and it wouldn't be so bad.

All righty! My JK armrest cover arrived earlier this morning from Amazon. I am very happy with it. I’m always resting my arm on top of that arm rest when driving, so I’m sure this secondary cover will save a bit of wear on the original surface over time.

In one pic here you can see where I routed the skinnier lower elastic retaining strap right across the face of the tissue container, and in the other pic, I positioned the strap under the bottom edge of tissue box. I’m going to leave the strap running under the bottom. The cover stays put very well. We’ll see how it does in the long term- hopefully the two elastic straps will not lose their tension any time soon.

The cover comes with the installation instructions pictured, but they are hardly necessary.

First day impression- I like it.
