Squirrels chewed injector wiring connectors

I had squirrels chew through my wifes 2019 4runner and left me with 4 dead cylinders. It was throwing codes P0102, P0113, and P0333. I replaced the destroyed connectors as well as the MAF Sensor and im still getting the codes as well as the 4Runner is now burning through fuel. It not once threw a code for injector issues. The check engine light is on as well as the Traction Control light and acceleration is slow. Any tips to resolve the issue would be appreciated.

 

Do you keep your car outside? If so keep it in the garage.

 

When you state "I replaced" does that mean you did the work yourself, or had a shop do this for you? Reason being, if the battery was disconnected during the work, it should have taken care of the codes, I believe, if the repair was done correctly. Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a while since the repair was done?

 

Yes I did the work myself, the battery was disconnected during the work, after I finished I reconnected the battery and started it up and the codes were still present.

 

I had this issue early on (2 weeks into ownership) with my 2019. I don't have a rodent problem, or didn't back in 2019, when I got my 4R, so I attribute my rodent-chewed wire, which was only on one cylinder, to the time in transit from Japan, from the west coast to Albuquerque, or while sitting at the dealer's lot. Mine was repaired by a Toyota repair facility, so I cannot speak to the actual repair done, other than seeing that the wires on the affected injector are replaced. I wish I had some more information for you, but unfortunately not. If disconnecting the battery now for a while does not clear the codes, either it needs a code reader/scan tool to do that, or needs to be diagnosed by a repair shop.

 

Could try leaving battery disconnected overnight. Or if you have something like Scangage device, you can clear code and see if it comes back.

 

As I've posted before, get a couple cats and this product, no problems. My 4R is parked under a car port in my back yard next to my shed 20 feet from the woods and I have this mouse blocker running on the wall. I have the pro plug-in unit from the website.

Cats, the one on the left is a killing machine. He has left in the last year about 10-15 dead birds, 5-10 squirrels, and 5 or so rabbits in various stages of dismemberment on the step of my garage door.

 

I had a similar issue with squirrels chewing the wires in my 4Runner, happened 5 times in the span of 9 months. The last one caused the most damage, destroyed one of the injector bank wiring harness, had to have it towed to a shop to get it repaired. Might the squirrels have chewed through some wires you can't see/missed?

 

According to the FSM:
P0102: Mass air flow meter range check (Low voltage) - could be caused by Open or short in mass air flow meter circuit
P0113: Open in intake air temperature sensor circuit
P0333: Knock Sensor 2 Circuit High Input (Bank 2)

Did you repair wiring for the MAF sensor and the bank 2 knock sensor? Without a working MAF signal or knock sensor signal, the engine is in fail-safe mode.

I think your fuel injectors are working correctly, otherwise you'd get misfire codes. How did you know you had 4 dead cylinders?

 

Things happen. Once you fix it, get some rodent repellent patches or spray from Home Depot, they work great. I use "Repell All". My truck is parked out in the open and I've had no issues. Temperature is going down so rodents will be looking for warmth.
