I have two 2015 SR5 4Runners and both of them have experienced intermittent issues with the back up cameras not working.

Last night the camera didn't come on when I had the rear window rolled down, but once I rolled it up it started working.

Today my wife drove my 4Runner and told me the camera hasn't worked all day.

Has anyone else had intermittent issues, and if so, found a remedy?

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I've never had this issue, and during the last few days (thanks to crisp morning weather)...as soon as I start my truck, and before putting it in reverse to back out of the garage, I put the rear window down. No issues at all.

I have had one odd issue with the camera, a few months ago. It came on and stayed on for a long time. It's supposed to cut off after you reach a certain speed. But this particular time it didn't. I was only driving a short distance and when I stopped/restarted the truck it went away. I attributed this to the headunit and not the camera. That may be your issue as well. Try updating the firmware on the head unit.
