Greetings. Am new here. Have a need to get some new shocks for my 1999 (Japan-built) Surf RHD, 4x4, 3RZ engine, Auto, no mods at all.

Am in need of new shocks. In South Africa, Toyota builds a SUV called a Fortuner, sorta 4-Runner like but a different Toyota frame platform. The shop I use in SA says they have a hard time getting shocks for the Surf and didn't have any numbers from the last time they ordered shocks from a USA supplier. I'm in USA at the moment and want to take them back with me later this week. So, I'm interested in ordering a set of something asap (if it doesn't work out to get them now, I'll be here is December and can take then), no lift kit additions planned...stock setup preferred.

Anyone know if my Surf uses same part numbers as the 4-Runners? Thinking of the Bilstein 5100s (*Edit: or maybe it should be the 4600s?). Someone on another forum previously mentioned Old Man Emu but they couldn't help with the info I need to identify the right shocks for a Surf. (The SA shop also recommended OME.) Any thoughts? (A while ago I sent an email to OME and didn't receive any reply...so they apparently don't need a new customer). Found a thread here from Jan 2018 about a guy who was doing a frame off, but I don't know if his 2000 Limited Bilstein numbers would fit my 1999 Surf. Trying to dial in on exactly how to find the right parts.

    Thanks.
    Dave

PS. Looking for a good road ride and ability to smooth out some bumpy two-track dirt driving. My wife has a neck problem so I want to keep it smooth for her. We do the two-track stuff when we go into the bush communities and visit places like Kruger National Park. The roads also have a lot of potholes so have to suck up some hard knocks fairly often.
