    I've tried every suggestion in the history of the universe to connect CarPlay to my 2021 TRD Pro. I've reset both phone and media head, updated phone (12 mini) and bought a new Apple lightning cable. Phone connects to Bluetooth, and connects using cable, but CarPlay never shows up as an option. I've not had this issue with previous vehicles, including 2018 Hyundai Tucson (plug and play). Any ideas? Thanks!

    Just a little try to troubleshoot;

    Is Siri enabled?
    (If I'm not mistaken, I had to enable siri for Apple car play to work)

    After siri is enabled see if you get the Apple Carplay icon when you hit Menu button

    It SHOULD show up automatically on the menu. If it doesn't, maybe try pushing MENU>SETUP>GENERAL>PROJECTION SETTINGS, there's an on/off button for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

    I struggle with getting CarPlay in my 22 ORP sometimes. I need to keep unplugging and replugging the cable, sometimes from both ends.

    Try updating the firmware in your head unit. I had the same issue in my 2021 TRD OR and resolved it with a firmware update.

    Do a search online for Toyota Head Unit Firmware Updates and you’ll find instructions for downloading the update to your head unit.

    Cheers,
    Bob

    Im using AA but i think this may be applicable to CP. Try connecting your phone before you start your 4runner so the CP/AA "handshake" is enabled

    Siri is and has been enabled. I’ll try the menu option. It doesn’t even read my suv when I try to wirelessly connect CarPlay,

    Thanks for all your suggestions. I've updated the firmware. Still no carplay. I've unplugged and plugged my phone several times. Didn't work. The head reads my phone wirelessly, but not carplay. I haven't tried the PROJECTION SETTINGS fix yet, but will when I head out from work.

    And, there it is. Projection settings did the trick after the firmware update. Thanks, guys for all your help!
