Safety connect and Destination assist

    Hi Everyone

    Just wondering are these necessary. I know that the navigation still works without the destination assist so I guess that is a no, but the other one I don't know. Toyota seems to like to push this service, but why should I pay for it. All replies would be greatly appreciated.

    I pay for Safety connect to keep the features Emergency Assistance Button, Enhanced Roadside Assistance, Automatic Collision Notification, Stolen Vehicle Locator.

    I also pay for Dynamic navigation to get map updates. If I find a way to update the maps for 15-20 bucks like the previous navigation system I would absolutely stop paying for this service.

    I did not renew Destination assist as I do not want to contact a live agent to help me on navigation. LoL.

    We use the safety connect in all of our Toyotas. The features are nice, plus I like being able to start them remotely.

    Remote start is not part of Safety Connect. You need Remote connect.

    I think Safety Connect is useless, I can call for assistance myself. I used Stolen Vehicle locator, but in my case it was waste of time, first of all it took over an hour waiting to talk to operator, then he tells you that you need some mode details not mentioned in manual or web page like police station address. So you call police asking for address, then call back to Toyota, operator finally agree to open your case and you never hear from them again. They tell you specifically that they will talk only to police and would never talk to owner about it.

    Remote connect gives you last parked location remote lock/unlock and remote start/stop which might be useful and probably worth it, but I'm not renewing Safety Connect for sure. And navigation always works, you don't need to subscribe for any service.

    You are correct, my daughters Rav4 has the safety and wi-fi connect services, our other cars have the remote connect.

    That sounds like a goofy way to run a service. Regardless, I’d be worried they would find the car before insurance sends me a check for the stolen vehicle. I’d hate to have to deal with the headaches of a vehicle that’s been previously stolen.

    Thank you. That's what I was wondering if the navigation still works without the subscription. As for the vehicle locator you are absolutely right. By the time they get back to you the shop that strips the vehicle will have already located and disabled the device and it's useless then. I just want to keep the navigation and radio that's all. Don't even need the xm radio. The regular stations are enough for me. Thanks to everyone on here for the input.
