If You have seen other threads ive posted you know that my 4runner is slowly coming to an end. with that said, its time for a new build!

i have been looking around and its come down to a few options so any opinions would be greatly appreciated.
    The options are:
    2007-2014 Single cab Tundra
    1998-2003 4runner
    2004-2009 Tacoma

Im planning to do a basic build with no matter what i get, so what does anyone think?

Sounds like you have a tough decision yet to make.

What, in your opinion, does a basic "Build" consist of? Based on what your use will be would be a major factor in what I would first consider.

A basic build in my mind is gonna be similar to my current 4runner. 3-6 inch lift, 33s, and if there are any that look appropriate a bumper and winch in the front.

I think it is mostly about finding cleanest starting point. Unless you have specific must-have requirements like a manual gearbox Taco, any of these would do. IMO Tundra is probably too big,

Well, do you need a truck or an SUV, that will limit your decision to one or the other. I personally would never get a regular cab truck.

im looking at tundras because of work requirements, and commutes.
and im starting to realize the inconvenience of single cab trucks, very few exist in 4wd.
thing to note is that i am about 6'5 and as much as i want a tacoma i tend to not be able to fit in them

The wagon body of the 4Runner is more useful to me personally so I'd go hunting for an XTerra or Pathfinder (pre-crossover) before the other pickups. I'd consider those if you're on a tight budget - aftermarket allowing. (What about the 2nd-gen Frontier? Lot of those around, reasonably solid powertrain.)

Especially since pickings might be slim when you start narrowing down by condition/rust, history, etc.

Would an extended cab, 6.5' bed Tundra be too long?

    Obvious factor; Age
    Your looking at a 16 year gap(98-14)
New build, basic or not, do you want to jump in with inherit problems/concerns to begin with?
You have the experience but what time n hassles are you willing to sign up for?

icebear- i have looked at xtended cab tundras as an option and they would also work, most tundras would inherently be ok, a lot of them are just on the bigger end. and im trying to stick with toyota, the community and quality is just on top.

scottiezilla- i know all vehicles im looking at are pretty old, and my current 4runner is 18 years old now, so while age of the vehicvle isnt inherently the problem its moreso about me finding the right one, wich i would be taking my time to do. I am expecting some of the unexpected, but im looking for something reasonably priced as well, its a lot of variables to put in all together.
