Hi all i have a 2024 4runner Turd pro, i recently installed a TRD intake over the weekend and it was all dandy until a day ago i had random oil pressure low flicker a few times only at stop light/idle. It usually goes away after 3-4 seconds then maybe 4-5 seconds it will pop up again. So needless to say i took it into the dealer, they have not been able to fix it and i am told it will be looked at by a toyota engineer. Im quite salty as it only has 3400 miles on it. I think its the sensor, or maybe i nicked a wire when cutting the tape for the trd intake install. Im not sure, but i hope it is fixed as i had some big plans for a build.

my last thing i wanted to mention i noticed, is that i work nights and noticed that my raptor lights sometimes are randomly on when i get back from work. I wonder if this is something else in the electrical affecting the oil pressure light etc. I will probably uninstall the raptor lights as the shop installed the fuse into the engine bay fuse box 10A INJ as i saw that its recommended to install in the cabin fuse box. I like how it looks but if its gonna randomly turn on ill remove them. If anyone has any experience with anything like this or any input/ideas on what it could be i would appreciate it. I will keep the thread updated with updates from toyo.

    Thanks
    Trevor

Wait, your mad at Toyota because you might have cut a wire? Or it might be something due to your after market lights?

I hope you figure it out so your Turd can be a TRD again.

Can’t speak for the intake/ sensor situation but I can say that the raptor lights being temporarily/ randomly on is likely because of where you tapped into/ whichever fuse you used. The drls for the morimoto xb in the 2nd gen Tacoma can do this bc the power source they have you tap into gets power/ “turned on” when the vehicle runs behind the scene diagnostics when it’s off. Likely the same thing is happening for your situation.

Too poor to buy anything now
Be prepared to pay for the fix if it's caused by something you modified.

Aftermarket electrical mods. Every. Single. Time. If you search through the forum you will find dozens if not hundreds of posts about people having issues when messing with the electronics. For whatever reason, the 4Runners do not play well when you tap into the electrical system.

I'd say there is a high probability it's your raptor lights. Uninstall them and test it for a while, bet your light issue goes away. If not, second suspect is the intake and anything that was messed with during installation.

    Good luck!

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
Electrically and mechanically mine will be untouched until the warranty is up. Dealers look for every excuse possible to shrug off responsibility. Double that for motorcycle dealers.

For the TRD Intake installation I used an extension cable for the MAF, requiring zero cutting or splicing of the factory wiring tape or conduit.

There’s an extension harness from Michigan Motorsports for the MAF so you didn’t have to cut for the TRD intake that does nothing.

The truck does an EVAP test after a few hours after running, which is mentioned in the manual, so the circuit you used for the craptor lights is active during that test.

If it is indeed a real oil pressure problem, the odds simply were not in your favor.

So far, everyone assumed that loss of oil pressure is not occurring and this is false warning due to electrical issues. This is reasonable assumption on a new 4Runner.

However, if low oil pressure is actually happening it is resulting in engine damage every time it happens. I strongly recommend investigating oil pressure AND performing oil analysis. It is possible that OP is extremely unlucky and got a defective oil pump. In such case, simply replacing the oil pump is not adequate - at the minimum new crank bearings have to be put in.

Not wrong, but why now? Is eliminate all the possibility of user error first, the more untouched the vehicle looks/is the more likely yota will check the oil system.

what fuse is recommended for the raptor lights and morimotos? I ordered a set and did some research on the fuse it was plugged into 10A INJ. From what I’ve read this is correct? I’m not sure what to plug the DRL in for the morimotos.

Honestly don’t remember (super helpful, I know). I opted to leave the DRL unplugged bc (1) I didn’t like the fact that they would be on all the time/ seems like it would lead to unnecessary use and (2) don’t think there was a work around to it unless you also add a rocker switch for them (I looked at the electrical diagram and then said fuck it).

here’s the install instructions for them - again, it’s a Tacoma, but likely in the ballpark https://5129608.app.netsuite.com/co...TxsLNQNFGhpwtyQ0Ps2m0IZxqcTB02x8c_uu&_xt=.pdf

Still at dealer Toyota claims to have never seen this issue before so running a lot of diagnostics. From what I gathered they are going to be installing new wiring. They checked the oil pressure and everything is fine. Swapped the sensor still same issue.

update: got word from my dealership that a Toyota engineer came to look at the engine. I am told that they have to replace the oil pump and timing cover. They confirmed that is 100% the issue and its a very rare issue that they have only seen affect a 2-3 in the past. Fingers crossed its fixed when i get it back.
