    New to the forum--

Big fan of the 4runner my whole life. The 3rd gen is my fav Gen but I found a solid deal on this 5th Gen TRD Off-Road. It was meticulously serviced at the dealer. It's in great shape. 1 owner. I ordered a 2/1 cornfed leveling kit. Eventually will add tires and a few things. It's just so capable as is.

Pulled the dealer badge off the rear already too.

Enjoy the build. Thanks for having me.:hattip:

Paid 32k cash. Not bad for 93k miles. The used car market sucks right now!

    First suspension mods:

    • sway bar delete— I’ve done this on every Toyota and Offroad rig I’ve owned.
    • 2” front leveling kit from Cornfed suspension. After doing the front I decided not to do the rear.

Took me a couple hours. Some oil under the skid but no leaks. Just lazy technicians doing oil changes.

Also added some Molle seat backs to keep the kids feed off the seats and add storage.

    In the mail:
    1. Blackout badge kit
    2. Steering wheel blacked out emblem
    3. Mud flap delete rears
    4. Trunk rear seat protection

    Looks great!

If you’re going to go with bigger heavier tires may be try to get “lighter” wheels from Method or Nomad, they are some out there that weigh about 22 pounds. Helps offset the bigger heavier tires.

Grats on the sweet ride and glad you're on the forums. For suggestions, in short, map out your long term plans. Sleep on it a while and audit those plans. throw them on here for critique.

For tires - are you going to upgrade the spare? and do you want the spare to fit under the car? Make sure the tires you're getting fit if you need them to fit under the same.

Do you want skids? Winch? anything else? - Add of the additional weight of your bumpers and everything else and make sure you buy springs that will support that weight in the future. Don't want to have a sweet ride height now get all droopy in the front or rear or both. This is very important.

Wheels - how do you want your stance to look? wheels / tires sticking out. Do you like the look of the tires sticking out a little? get read to cut more so they don't rub. Anyone here who says they but on 285's and had zero rubbing is insane. Do not listen to that. Maybe they only drive in straight lines. I don't know. If you're going to go off road you need no rubbing on full articulation at full wheel turn so you'll need to do some trimming. More negative offset = more trimming.

You'll be noticeably slower with those tires and worse MPG. Consider an ECU flash to help with both points.

3 inch lift you'll probably need to upgrade the needle bearing and with the millage on the vehicle probably just do it preventatively.

cool! I also want to blackout the car, sadly I can’t find any aftermarket wheels that I like. I actually really like the look of the OR wheels, just wish they were black matte black.

Tires in the mail - Arroyo Tamarock M/T - 285/70/17. Got the protection package and 5 tires. Stock rims for now. I'll get better rims when I slap on a solid midtravel kit.

I paid right at $200 a wheel to have mine powdercoated.
I took all 5 up there so even the spare matched, powder coat shop about an hour away from me. They sand blast them, bake them, powder them, bake them and then they are done.
If you like that wheel and want it black, all you gotta do is have them powdercoated.

Atturo - Trail Blade X/T - 295/70/r17 - In the mail now. 5 tires coming. Wish me luck fitting them. I have plates for BMC -- I've done a DRT BMR on a 2020 Tacoma previously so that shouldn't be a big deal. Also will need some sort of viper cut. Anyone have suggestions on fitting the 295s? Right now just have a 2" front spacer lift. I don't want to the upgraded suspension yet.

You don't need a suspension lift to fit tires per se. When your suspension articulates it pushes the tires up. The lift just gives ground clearance. Not tire clearance. I would go to Perry Parts and order bump stops. Front is going to need taller bump stops so these tires don't crash into your fender liners when they articulate.

    What offset are your wheels?

Do you want a viper cut? Those are 33.3's. You could remove the mud flaps, do a BMC, cut a little bit of bumper and melt and push / relocate part of the fender and it should clear.

295's are wider than most go so you'll need more negative offset to clear your frame and UCA meaning you'll need to cut more bumper.

If you want to do a viper cut though, then start there. Push the tires all the way forward after the viper cut and see if you don't need to remove the mub flaps or do a BMC.

You will be noticeably more sluggish and get much worse MPG's but it won't be as bad as your dash says because your speedo thinks you're going slower than you are. You're right on the fence for a regear.

I installed RoxBloxz mudflaps that take up the same amount of room as the mud flap delete kit if you want to use mud flaps.

I opted for none. I'm probably going to put on some taller pizza cutters so I figured less would make it look taller. 255/80/r17s

Sick! is it just me or people are moving from the wide rims and tires with the tires stretched out with a wide stand to more in the fenders skinnies with a taller tires to raise the ground clearance.
