I have a 2000 4runner limited and my transmission is leaking fast from where it bolts up to the motor. Transmission shifts and drives fine but the fluid is just pissing out, what could that possibly be?

I also found a transmission from a 2000 4runner sr5 and wanted to know if it will work with the limited model if this is a problem that is not repairable.

Are you sure it is transmission fluid and not engine oil? Could be the main seal around your cranksharft. Main seal will also leak from where it bolts to the engine block.

Is it common for a trans seal to blow suddenly like that?

definitely agree on the torque converter seal, repair can be simple, remove the trans and inspect the drive plate/flywheel also check for for free play of the torque converter where it fits into the front pump. The torque converter shouldn't have a whole lot of movement in the trans, if there is too much movement replacing the seal will be a short lived band-aid.
