    Ha! We should start an internet rumor that GM is using old $20 bills that the government has taken out of circulation in certain filter sizes and they are still intact when you open them up. Try to get the tweakers to make a run on them.

    One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
    Kinda, sorta off subject….
    I have CZ75 and Sig226 pistols, Mec-Gar supplies OEM magazines to both manufacturers….but if you buy magazines for those two models with the Mec-Gar label they differ in the details. Not sure why, maybe to hide that they come from the same manufacturer? Like filter brands, not many people know Mec-Gar produces OEM magazines for many firearm manufacturers.
    Edit;
    From motoraudit.com;
    “Denso makes almost all of the oil filters for Toyota. Based on the part number, you will notice that a few are made by Purolator.”

    ^For the 4th gen, there's no need to guess. Denso's name and internal P/N are right on the canister.

    Denso is part of the Toyota Group, along with Aisin and Jtekt (Koyo).

    ^Not to my knowledge. 3rd gen Tacoma rear diffs are made by Hino in Thailand. I don't know if they also make the 4R rear diff. I don't know if Hino or another company (like Dana) makes the axle housing.

    I mixed Denso and Hino. I think Hino makes the axles for Toyota trucks

    Toyota owns Hino.
    My son who owns a 3rd gen claims Hino played a big part in the 3rd gen design.

    We talking Tacomas? Hino designed the 2nd gen frame. That's why it isn't fully boxed for weight reduction, like Hino haul trucks. 3rd gen frame is the same as 2nd gen but with some areas beefed up.

    He has a 3rd gen 4R limited.

    I found this about Toyota:
    Toyota owns 100% of Daihatsu, Hino, Lexus, 20% of Subaru Corporation, 5.1% of Mazda, 4.9% of Suzuki, 4.6% of Isuzu, 3.8% of Yamaha Motor Corporation, 2.8% of Panasonic, and 4.9% of Suzuki (MTMUS).

    Kinda related but what do you guys use for oil? I've seen YouTubers using 5w-30 Pennzoil and the manual recommends anything 5w-30. On my WRX I'm using Motul 5W-40. Oil is a hot topic for us Subaru guys so was just wondering if I should be as picky with my 4th gen 4Runner (V6).

    I typically use NAPA Gold filters now, but to be honest, I used Fram filters for 4+ decades and never once had an issue.

    OEM filters with Mobil 1 5w-30 full synthetic. 5k intervals for changes. Seems to work.

    You’ll get answers from Mobil 1 to Supertech. (Costco’s Kirkland oil is ~$9 off 10 quarts by the way!)

    Just make sure it meets spec, is changed on time, don’t think too hard and you’ll be fine.

    Lot of talk from brands, to specific offerings from said brand, to interval, to oil filter, etc. That our engines aren’t blowing up yet seems to be a good sign.

    I ran pennzoil ultra platinum for nearly all the miles on my 2018 f150 ecoboost, always changed at 3000miles. Was knocky on hot days and had bad phazer start up rattle(when first started). I felt like as many reviews that pump this oil as the best, it may thin out and not be the best for "some" engines.

    After i change the mobil1 out of my t4r I plan to go to liqui moly brand and probably stay there.

    No turbo on your 4Runner V6? Then any 5W30 will do. 0W30 works too. Don't use 0W20 as it's too thin on the single-VVTi 1GR.

    Any oil meeting Toyota’s specs and changed at appropriate intervals is fine. Buy something expensive if you like but the engine doesn’t care. Using one over another won’t get you any significant increase in engine performance or longevity.

    I watched the video I believe the OP was referencing in starting this thread. Have to admit the results weren’t what I expected in terms of the Toyota OEM filter. It was pretty terrible. I looked for other measurable performance test videos but only found the “cut it open” kind. Interested to know if anyone is aware of objective tests. Not overly concerned here but also not quite as confident in OEM filters either.
