I saw this post where someone added auto headlights to their 2022 TRD ORP, and figured I'd give it a try. I changed all the parts he mentioned and got the auto headlights working. I have the same problem as he did with the SiriusXM app disappearing and I'm hoping to find a fix. At the end of the thread he says "FYI you have to hand shake the smart key ecu to get you remotes to work after body ecu is replaced." Does anyone know how to do this? I can start the 4Runner, but can't unlock it using the key fobs.
    Thanks.

@gonpostal How hard was it to swap out the ECU and the headlight stalk?

I followed this video to change the headlight switch; it's from an older Tacoma, but everything is identical. His steering wheel came off easier than mine, I had to pull pretty hard to get it off. This video shows how to swap out the ECU. I found it easier to remove the whole assembly that the ECU is attached to; you only have to remove a couple of nuts and unplug all the wires. When you remove the whole assembly, it's easier to get to the clip on top of the ECU to remove it. I would recommend disconnecting the battery before doing any of this. All in all, it wasn't as bad as I thought.

I will be purchasing all of the parts to do this mod. Keep us updated on if you got your keys to work. Thank you.

I guess this is why I posted in the Old Farts thread...I just don't see where having auto headlights is worth taking your steering wheel apart and replacing parts. To each their own, though. Good luck with the project.

I've disassembled a steering column to replace an ignition key cylinder and to replace a neutral safety switch. It's doable, but not for the faint of heart. I wouldn't do it again for a nice-to-have.

And spend at least $800-900 in parts for this “mod”. I don’t think it’s worth it personally.

it is quite outrageous that Toyota didn’t put this to begin with across all trims though

I seriously question the need for auto headlights, and the need to do so much. Why not just buy any other vehicle then?
A turn is all it takes to just turn it on yourself. Why is that such a hard task.

Bumping this thread. I still haven't figured out how to do this, hoping someone here can help.

In case anyone is following this thread: I tried using Calista to see if I could get them working, but no dice. Calista allows you to enable and disable wireless door locking, but mine was already enabled. I tried disabling and enabling it again, but it didn't help. I saw a thread where some people had their fobs stop working after they adjusted their door lock beep volume (I think) on their truck, this may work for them.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

Agreed. I suggest the cheapest, easiest and fastest mod: Just turn the lights to the ON position and leave it there. That's what I did the first week that I bought my SloRunner. They're always on and I never wonder "Hmm, do I need head lights?".

Boom. That saved me a lot of hours ripping apart the steering wheel and probably a lot of dollars in parts.
