New here, been lurking and searching threads for a bit, tho. My time with 4Runners started way back in 1995 with my first one, brand spanking new off the lot. I’ve had a ton of vehicles since and I still count that one as one of the best cars I’ve ever had. Fast forward nearly three decades and I’m still thinking about that thing!

Now with the Gen 5 going out of production and the new motor being a turbo 4 banger that’s gonna have to work its ass off to put out basically the same HP (don’t get me started on the increased complexity of that new motor PLUS hydrid power) as the 4.0L V6, I figured I better get back in now.

Got me a 2023 TRD ORP, nautical blue on black. 13,000 miles, previous owner had it less than a year. Paid just over $40K. I’d forgotten one of my favorite things about these - their simplicity. No power tailgate to break. A transfer case shifter that’s connected directly to the transfer case - no stupid switch with motors to do the shifting for me - I still laugh watching that shifter move around as I go down the road - as it should be! A sunroof liner that you slide *gasp* by HAND!

No surprise to you guys here, the aftermarket for these is nuts and I have been having a blast watching videos and checking websites for 4runner stuff. I researched and made decisions on some stuff (suspension) prior to buying, others after. In the 4 weeks I’ve had it, I’ve done:

Fox 2.5 Factory DSC suspension with remote reservoirs
    Camburg front upper control arms
    Camburg rear 1” lift springs
    Method MR312 wheels, black/bronze, 17x8.5, 0 offset
Nitto Ridge Grappler tires, 285/70-17 (have them on my Raptor, love them!)
Cali Raised step edition sliders with bed liner filler plates (no angle as a favor to my wife)

I chose Camburg for parts and install because they are local to me in Huntington Beach and I like to support local, and man they paid me back with a super fast/clean install. They handled fender liner and front bumper trimming and you can’t even tell they did it, and they aligned it for me. The difference between stock and this setup is night and day, and I haven’t even started playing with the adjusters yet. All the weight transfer of the factory setup is just GONE. No tire rub on road yet.

I also did a few silly personalized things like blackout trim on the grilles, black TRD Pro front and rear valances, etc. but now I’m just focusing on driving it…heading to Big Bear next week to get off the pavement and mess around with some settings. I suppose that will be the true tire rub test. I have a road racing engineering/setup background that I’m looking forward to applying and learning some new things!

That’s it, looking forward to participating here!

Thanks for the welcome, all, appreciate it.

That's just the optional factory TRD front skid plate.

Quick question - in order to recoup some of my investment in wheels/tires/suspension (AKA need $$ for more mods), I am gonna be selling the factory wheels and tires. Usually there are names for a wheel style and my understanding is that my wheels are just called "TRD Off Road Premium" wheels. Is that correct? I want to make sure I'm advertising them right. Thanks in advance.

congrats. Ironically, after you shift that mechanical link into 4WD gear, system uses electronic solenoid to activate 4WD.

Welcome! Great ride. I couldn’t agree more regarding the shifter and tcase. My Tacoma was all electronic 4 wheel selection. No thanks. Love my TRD OR. Paid 32k for mine with 93k miles. You got a solid deal!

Pretty sure they the same as mine off my 2018 TRD OffRoad. I think they are just TRD OffRoad rims.
