    Why Toyota?

Because of the huge amount of anecdotal information and one low speed hit straight into the front tire that totaled a pristine 2019 Grand Cherokee. No airbag deployment, no broken glass - didn't even break the headlight - passenger door functioned perfectly. Didn't even spill my lemonade. Totaled before they even had a chance to finish adding up the front end damage in the underbelly. Took a tow truck just to get it on the rack. It was so bad, they couldn't even arrange the mangled parts into a configuration so they could roll it OFF the rack. Yeah...no. Not acceptable. Not to this baby-boomer.

    Why a 4Runner?

Because, initially, it was the closest I could get to what I liked about the Grand Cherokee for the full cost of a replacement vehicle. Though I had to add 6 years to the age to do it. SOOOOO, 2013 4Runner.

Why was a 2013 model an acceptable replacement, IMO?

One owner, low miles (75,000 miles), regular maintenance, sheer amount of information available and the nature of car people like those in forums like this with a bonus of brand-focused drift and racing mechanics. I'm not talking about "expert" PR information. I'm talking about real information from real life experience. The kind of anecdotal information/evidence manufacturers hate because it takes several years and dozens, if not hundreds, of "meetings" to research an issue during which time they're only allowed to speak corporate "PR" - if they're allowed to speak at all.

I like knowing what to do, when, and how to avoid known issues.

    (edited for grammar)
