Yeah he is as Pro for Toyota as you can get.
Unfortunately for every Pro you can, if you try, come up with as many negatives.
For example you can maintain it mechanically well, but it will not last more XX years if its driven in the rust belt with no "extra" annual rust proofing applications, on top of regular under carriage cleanings. I think the frame that everyone loves (me too) for its ruggedness is also the Achilles Heel if not treated. If your frame is shot, you can have the best, motor, transmission, body.... it doesn't matter.

Another - moonroof drain design. If left unchecked can block up (I recently found out) and could take out expensive electronics, because of their bad placement design. In the passenger footwell.

    just saying.

I love my 17 Limited, it's my daily driver, and I also have a 2.5 Gen Tundra.
    I like unicorns.

I agree, he is obsessed with the gap thing. Glad I don’t live in the rust belt and have to contend with the rust prevention.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.

Not surprised as Mr Car Care Nut also rated 5th Gen 4Runner powertrain higher than Land Cruser200 / GX460.

Hands down the 4R is the most durable and most reliable vehicle you can buy new in the USA. I assume it’s close to sold out at this point tho. The 5th gen will be the last Toyota product that gets the same powertrain that Toyota uses in 3rd world Land Cruisers. From here on out, we will get turbos, hybrid and electric crap as well as the North American cost cutting designs. Does that bode well for the 6th gen 4R? Judging by the new Tacoma and Tundra designs / failures, the days of 250K-300K trouble free miles are gone. Of course that’ll mean the days of amazing resale are gone too.

I wonder if he knows about the unreliable PCV valve and VVT-i screen that everyone changes just because of another guy with YT videos.

Curious. What brand of auto lasts 30 years in the rust belt?

274,000 miles. I bought it used, 2 yrs old with 36,000 on it. I drove a municipal snow plow for 22 yrs. and it has seen more than its' share of salt. I washed it after every snow storm. The underbody and wheel wells got power washed every storm, too. I had access to an indoor wash bay, and I took full advantage of it. Haven't hit 30 yrs yet but it will. I guess keeping them clean works.

Wish I had kept my 1980 F100, that thing was a tank with the inline 6 and never had rust issues (lived in Northern VA). Sold it to my brother who eventually sold it to someone else.

OK, same as anything else. As long as it's maintained. Toyota does have frames that are more susceptible to rust, but not impossible to prevent. The way I read some posts on this forum, the thing will disintegrate after one winter. When I do travel Norte, I see every type of manufacturer with massive holes in rocker panels and rotted fender wells. Some not that old. My friend in the UP says they won't allow salt or chemicals to help protect the lakes, so I guess there are places that aren't as bad as others.

This has been more than one winter, but shows what happens with no frame or underbody maintenance at all:

I've seen this video. I've also seen it first hand on a 35k mile FJ I was looking to buy. The axle tube was flaking off in fist sized pieces. Gas tank straps were barely holding up. Rear ASB and links were just splinters. This was at a used car lot down here. Scared the crap outta me. Such a waste. Don't see how a car lot can legally sell something that far gone.

I worked in the GM stamping plant where body panels were stamped and assembled for that generation. They used double sided galvanized coils that were shiped in specially designed enclosed trailers. They were obsessed with quality and it showed. Unfortunately, as cost cutting ensurd, quality was abandoned
