This seems like a ridiculous question (it probably is), but couldn’t find an answer through the search feature.

What’s the weight limit for the tailgate/ putting weight on the black plastic portion on top of the rear bumper?

I’m used to 2nd gen Tacomas where you know it can handle whatever weight and the fact that it’s plastic makes me concerned about even putting reasonable weight on it (e.g., body weight when crawling in the back)

I need to read. I was thinking towing.

Good luck finding an actual rating for it. Its supported but its still not the bumper its just a cover.

Distributed weight is probably as much as a Tacoma tailgate. Under the plastic is the frame crossmember for the tow hitch. If you have a concentrated load, put down a piece of 2x6 so you don't puncture or crease the plastic.

It's just plastic, Styrofoam, and the frame. Not much weight before you puncture through the thin plastic at worst, crease it at best. The frame underneath it however will hold anything

It will hold your weight. When I wax the roof I roll down the hatch window, open the hatch, and then stand up on the bumper through the hatch to reach the center rear portion of the roof around the shark fin. As for a rating? Well …
