Hey guys, I have a 2006 4runner V6. This problem has never happened up until 3 days ago, and I wanted to see anyones thoughts. I recently replaced my battery (maybe a couple months ago) and have not had this happen. When I go to start it, my radio channels are deleted, and it starts as if the battery is very dead and only slightly has some life left to start it, but it's a new battery and I tried this issue after charging the battery and it still occured. It'll struggle to start up and very underpoweringly will give the starter just enough to power it. I'm wondering if there is a short somewhere in my connections or a faulty ground or what, (I haven't touched anything) but this has not happened ever. My rear wiper comes on immediately after, and my radio saved preset channels are deleted, aka symptoms of a dead battery but its not a dead battery. Please look at this unlisted short to see what I'm talking about. https://youtube.com/shorts/RNDD784C3dM?feature=share

One very easy thing you can look at right away is the negative cable. Years ago my mom had an issue with weak starting on one of her vehicles, and it turned out that the ground cable had frayed. So, testing for voltage everything looked great. But, as soon as you put a load on it, it acted like a dead battery.

Other then looking a little dirty, it showed no signs of being frayed. Nothing odd I saw from either ends.

OK. I just wanted to mention that because it's easy to overlook.

How are the terminals? Any signs of corrosion?

No signs of corrosion. Pretty healthy but dirty. I can try to use a metal battery terminal cleaner and see if that does anything.

Just go to the + on battery and any un painted screw/bolt on the car or even the engine ground if you can find it.

Can tell right away if you are getting a good ground from the battery. Jiggle it too while testing.

Do voltage drop testing on the battery negative cable - from the battery terminal to the frame.

Practical way to check for excessive draw is to verify with a DC current clamp meter on the battery cable while the truck is off:

(If you need to buy one, make sure it can measure DC current. Some of them sold at Home Depot, etc. measure only AC current.)

The tapping sound while cranking sounds unusual to me. Could you post a recording of a normal startup?
