I don’t remember your other moon shots, but have you taken any not-full moon pics?

I ask because I learned that full-moon shots, cool as they are, don’t show craters very well.

As of March 2021, Luke Brewster's 2018 non-typical whitetail buck from Edgar County, Illinois holds the state record for the largest buck ever shot in the state, with a score of 327-7/8. The 22-point buck also broke the previous record, set by Michael Beatty in 2000, by more than 33 inches. The Pope and Young Club, which keeps archery records, confirmed the buck as the world record after an eight-hour review by a panel with over 217 years of combined measuring experience.

Added note: If you take a look at the street in the background, you'll see a
spiderweb of patchwork that was done on the street as a temporary measure
after years of bitching and moaning to the city about the condition of my street.
Finally....not going to hold my breath, the street I live on will have its first
major repair in almost 40 years.

What camera and settings do you use to take pictures of bright objects in the dark? I've tried taking pictures of the moon with my canon (I think it's a rebel t5 or t5i) and only get a bright blur.

I'm assuming I need a tripod and slow shutter settings but honestly I've never done manual setting adjustments, just use the switch settings. Night mode sounds like a super slow shutter when taking the photo but the blur I get is probably due to me holding it like I have Parkinson's due to the excitement.

    Schooling is welcome

Any full moon shots I take are with Nikon P900, all my settings are untouched in automatic, but it's got enough zoom to focus on the full moon

These last 2 shots, were before I even had my camera, cheating, putting my phone up to a telescope, srry to disappoint lol

Well that's disappointing to hear - maybe I should try again. I have a nice zoom lense that puts it full picture as well

To take photos of a full moon, start with your camera in manual, set ISO to 100, aperture to f/10 and shutter speed to 1/100 of a second. A full moon is reflecting a lot of sunlight, so shutter speeds are faster and apertures are smaller than you would expect. These settings will get you close, there are a lot of variables so some adjustment may be needed, slightly slower shutter or wider aperture, especially if the moon is not full. Since you’ll be using telephoto, use a tripod.

Thanks. That was probably the most colorful butterfly I’ve seen. The blue almost looks painted on, and even the body is blue. Fuzzy here:mad: But the iridescence made the colors change. Those pics are of the same butterfly.

Also, play around with daytime moon shots. I was able to get some cool shading when dialing the brightness back during processing, since the brightness of the moon and sky are much closer to one another. A bit fuzzier here than on my home PC.

I have the same camera as VTECMoonWalker, but I approach it a little differently. I let the camera deal with the aperture (which usually means it's wide open, 5.6 in the case of this camera when zoomed all the way), and I adjust the shutter speed shot by shot to get the exposure I like. And yes, a tripod.

Yeah, all my moon shots via p900 are free hand, too lazy to bring out the tripod I guess lol

So I learned some things about my camera:
    1. It's a Canon Rebel T3 (had it a long time)
    2. My zoom lense isn't as zoomy as I thought - had to crop these
    3. Stable base will go a long way. I need a tripod but using a table/chair got these tonight
The first one had some contrast settings adjusted on the computer for better picture definition. The second is raw

It's a nice night here. Pictures are still coming out bright in night mode. Tried adjusting things manually without much luck. I'll have to play around more this weekend when I have more time. Looking into tripods now - this site never let's me stop spending money one way or another
