    Hi ,
For some reason, my headlights and tail lights stay on anytime I open one of my doors. Also , when I click unlock on my FOB. The lights come on and stay on . This is an issue when I’m trying to pack/unpack the vehicle or clean it. I don’t need my headlights and tail lights on while I do this while the vehicle is off. It drains my battery. Is there some sort of setting I can adjust ?
Also, they stay on when I stop the vehicle. And will stay on indefinitely until I click the lock button. Often when I get out of my vehicle, I need to keep the doors open in order to unload the vehicle or clean it. Or get my kids out. I don’t always need to immediately lock the clicker.

    Oooh look, another mod.....

That's normal, and they do shut themselves off after a few minutes. I haven't timed it to be more exact.

To make them go off faster, turn off the car before opening the driver's door. Then it would apply the 30-second timer. I have not been in that habit over the years; I have always turned the car off as I open the door and start to get out. I've been training myself to shut the car off first and then open the door.

Another hint...when not in the garage, if you lock the doors a second time, the lights go off immediately at that point. For years, I've been in the habit of pressing the lock button on the remote a second time a couple of seconds after the first time just to shut the lights off.

We don’t have auto headlights in our 4 Runner’s. I use my running lights mostly. Only put the switch to on at night.

Hi. Thank you for the response. That is actually not the case. If I click unlock on my vehicle and open the tailgate or any door to pack or clean it. The lights will stay on indefinitely and never turn off. I either have to go in and manually turn them off. Which seems odd. Then what’s the purpose of DRL? But I have to lock the door in order for them to turn off. Bottom line is I cannot have my doors open without my headlights on .This is an issue Because when I am going on a trip or cleaning the vehicle, I need to have my doors open for anywhere from a half hour to an hour to pack/clean.

So is the headlight switch on the stalk turned on or off when this is happening?
