I'm heading to Moab mid October for the white rim road. Driving from Orlando FL solo for the trip. Right now I have some Chinese m/t 285/70/17 on my 4runner running 3/2.5" lift with BMC and no front mud flaps plus some trimming under there. Frankly I just got these cheaper tires to check performance and fitment. I want to go up to 285/75/17. I am leaning towards A/T tires instead of mud because I have determined I'm not a fan of mud boging down here in FL. What tire suggestions would anyone have for Moab. I was leaning towards the new Faulken at4s. Also open to debate on m/t vs a/t for Utah. Not particularly jazzed on the idea of driving 2200 miles on mud tires. Thanks

    Oooh look, another mod.....
I recommend Falken's or Baja Boss' if you're going up to 285's. Please take plenty of pictures while you're on the trails in Moab. I bet the weather will be awesome that time of year.

A/T don't mess with M/T as your ears will pay the price on how loud these are. I have the baja boss MT on my rig, very capable offroad but a bit loud for me. I had the Faulken WP and really liked those. I think you can't go wrong with any of the usual suspects there. Toyo, Nitto, BFG, lots of choices for weekend warriors like many of us. Good luck. P.S. a pic from the MT, right out of the trail.

I was out in Colorado and was almost thinking of doing the White Rim, but then I realized you needed reservations. Next time I have to plan better. Please post up a trip report when you get back!!!

Are you ok with the gearing on 285/70-17 right now? It will be a bit worse on 285/75-17s, but it seem you can get used to it judging from other’s opinions. Highway driving in Colorado while climbing was 3rd gear most of the time on 285/70s. I’d imagine one size up from that will be fine in third as well, but it will be doggish.

Have you thought about asking your wife which tires you should buy?

Thanks for posting this! I was considering the Baja Boss MT to replace my Yokohamas when they're done for. But, I really like how quiet they are for an MT. Maybe I'll just stick with them for the next set.

Cooper ST Max are supper tough with great traction. Falken Wildpeak are more road worthy but I think better wet traction.

Just wait till he ask when to change the oil and what type. Before or after the trip?

He is going to have to stop mid trip and change it at least twice.

I love my Cooper ST PRO. Negative is that they suck braking, are shit in the rain and are heavy as hell... but for what they are built for they are awesome grip off road (no opinion on rock crawling as I dont do it).

I had them as a daily driver for about 2 years. Now I just use them when i need them. ATs are better as a DD

    She said Toyo AT3

Lets just pre-empt this, he should change it before he leaves and again when he gets back.
