Seeing that pic reminds of watching an F150 go into the water when someone launching his boat on a Lake Erie Canal. I don’t know what happened but this person must have not put the truck in park when going to unhook the strap in his winch attached to the boat. His door was open and truck nearly ran this man over. The door hit each dock post as it slowly went backwards into the water without a driver in it.

Suddenly a boat was still attached to the trailer being pulled down as the trailer went deep into the water, to follow was the F150 suddenly in the water up to the roof as the owner got knocked down in the dock. Thankfully he was ok but super embarrassed and dumbfounded.

Since that date I put a set of wheel chalks behind the truck tires just in case. We all get in a rush or think we are invincible perhaps. It only takes a small amount of time for something to go drastically wrong.

When parking on hills (no boat here), I turn the wheels. That way if it does get loose, it won't go far.

People staying at the same hotel don’t join online forums to talk about their rooms. Maybe not a “team”, but certainly a group that share the love for their rigs.

I heard somewhere that it was a 2020-era thing where leaving a rubber duck was a cute way of saying "i like your jeep/build!" as a little cute/positivity gesture. some folks just took to collecting them and the rest is history.

Don't quote me though, I'm a secondary source citing a secondary source. The pinnacle of fact clearly.

Whatever it is, my young daughter loves it and tries to look for ducks in the windshield every time we pass a jeep. Makes me want to put some frogs on my dash like the one girl here wanted to get started for 4runners. Ribbit ribbit mofo

Possibly. But with black TRD wheels it would have been a piece of cake in 2wd.

I say we should do turtles.

The duck thing came up on Tacoma World recently. I said that cool people have turtles on their dash, and suddenly at the last outing, someone put turtles on everybody's dash, lol.

I made that joke because I already have a turtle on my dash. I won it out of one of those claw machines when I was goofing around in an arcade (it was attached to a bar) the year I bought my 4Runner. I set it on the dash and it just kind of stayed there.

No mention is made why the driver of said 4R didn't just drive out of there once the tide began to come in. One can only assume he parked there, strolled down the beach, and was too far away once he noticed the tide rising to reach his vehicle in time to get out...

Not being one who lives on or near the coast, I have no idea how quickly that can happen.

From dead low tide to peak high tide takes about 6 hours. Tidal swings can be pretty significant up in Oregon/Washington (up to 12ft around full and new moons). If it was a day with tide swings like that, water can rise 2ft in an hour.

True. But in order for it to have gotten up to the hood it was parked there for quite some time. I've driven on that beach many times. They either did are completely retarded/intoxicated, or it was done on purpose. If they were stuck I guarantee multiple people with tow straps or winches drove that they could have asked for help from. Teenagers even cruise up and down with the express purpose of pulling people out of the softer sand for money.

The article said they were tourists. I tried to read the license plate but could not make it out. I think I’d park in a regular parking lot why risk ruining such an expense SUV very sad

I wonder if insurance covers parking in the ocean.

I couldn't make it out either but I think it may be this Oregon plate based on the first blurry photo I attached - looks like i can make out Smokey the Bear's face. If true, they were tourists in their own state.

Not to mention I am sure there are EPA fines of some sort for gas/oil/coolant etc polluting the water. I remember I read the guy whose f150 went Lake Erie Canal I mentioned had a huge fine

Everyone is considered a tourist there. It's a small beach town that is largely inhabited by residents from all over Oregon and Washington

plus I feel like most people who drive 4Runners are people just going on grocery runs with kids in the back and a trunk full of sporting equipment lol until I put new tires on it feels like at home in a whole food parking lot.
