Has anyone experienced axle wrap on a 3rd gen? I am getting a very heavy shaking on acceleration from a stop and it feels exactly like axle wrap. It immediately stops when I re-engage the clutch and accelerate more slowly. Axle wrap seems unlikely with a four link, but I suppose with worn out bushings that may be enough to do it. I think I am going to try to get a GoPro mounted under there to get a look at what is going on while accelerating.

could be your U-joints, can get nasty vibrations if the are seized.

I thought about u-joints as well, but they seem to be in good shape. It only does this on hard acceleration (as hard as a 2.7 can accelerate at least). I am thinking I need to pull the trailing arms and inspect the bushings.

I stuck a camera under the 4Runner today and it is not axle wrap. Not getting an unusual amount of movement in the rear axle or control arms. So that was good news. The bad news is it looks more expensive than bushings.

I realized that the shaking only occurs once everything is warmed up. My new theory is that the clutch is intermittently slipping. After some research it looks like a semi common problem. Clutch Chatter is apparently what it is called. It could be caused by uneven wear, or oil getting on the pressure plate.

I am still working through things, but this look like the most probable cause. May be replacing clutch and flywheel soon.
