    That’s what I’m here for..
I have a 22 TRD sport and have the 20” factory wheels. I’m told I can’t downsize my rim to a 17 or 18 because of the size of the brakes. Can I put aftermarket brakes that are smaller or do I have to stay with 20” rims? Anyone encountered this yet?

You can drop down to a 17" rim with no problem. No matter the trim package of 4Runner, the brakes are all the same size.

Stay away from the person who said that you can't fit 17in wheels to your 2022 TRD Sport.

It's the same brakes shared on all trims. I have a Limited which I changed 20 in wheels to 17in TRD Off-road wheels.

Same brakes across the board. Sport doesn’t actually mean sporty.

Do not do business with with that fool. In many cases it is true for other vehicles so perhaps that person just doesn’t know a thing about the 4Runner.

Smaller brakes just to fit the desired wheels??? Is it a real question? What’s more important? Stopping power or the look? As others stated, same brakes on every 4Runner.
European brands often have bigger brakes on sport models but not on the 4Runner.

You can't downsize to Tacoma wheels, but you can surely downsize to 17" stock 4R.

FYI - you'll find a much bigger selection of tires in 17 vs. 18.

At one point, I was considering FJC brakes to fit 16's. But, it had nothing to do with aesthetics. More sidewall = better off-road performance.
