Thank you, she should’ve had the knee done years ago but she is stubborn as a mule.

    Seconding those well wishes.

I was away in the mountains this weekend and am happy to see this thread still going strong.
With all of our cumulative knowledge and experiences, I hope we can continue to help each other out when and where we can.

Good luck to you and your wife that the procedure and recovery goes well.
My wife had a very bad vision problem too (twisted double vision) that had everyone stumped until we found the right eye surgeon. Thankfully, all is good right now.

The surgery was a medical SS disaster, it never happened due to incompetence….starting from scratch and going to a different hospital.

Sorry to hear this. It is very unnerving to get all set for something that big only to have it not happen.

67 and just retired last month. I’m looking for a Time Machine to go back to the 70’s. What happened to the USA in the 21st century.

Congrats on 81 and still driving and doing your own work. Driving at that age is a sign of health and cognitive capability. Abner even sounds like an old name. Younger people won’t remember the Lil Abner comic series.

I'm having a hard time deciphering my Honors English wife's sentence structure. For some reason she keeps saying "That would be a great retirement job for you" I have a Military retirement, disability and for some reason that deranged lady thinks I'm going to die at work. Has this happened to anyone else?

I'll be the big Six-0 later this year. Got the heck out of AZ almost 3 years ago and don't miss all the crime and traffic and the heat. Lost count of how many Toyotas we've had over the years. Our 2019 is our 5th 4Runner we've had though. Glad there is a lot of like minded guys here. My old buddy Bob who is 83 gave me this advice.....I'm so old I don't buy green bananas.

Ha! Yes, briefly. My wife kept looking for ways to "make a few bucks in retirement". At least she was looking for both of us. I think she has finally come to the realization that we are going to have "enough". We don't live extravagantly so we are in pretty good shape. I just can't wait for her to join me so we can really start doing fun stuff.

What she’s really saying is to go trail riding in your 4Runner. With my wife she tells me to cut the grass or fix something, but she really wants is for me to go 4 wheeling.

I retired a year ago at 50. I was lucky enough to squeeze in under the CalPERS “3% at 50” retirement program. Now in most places it’s 2.75@57.

Nice! My first retirement honey-do was a shed to help organize the garage. Of course, once it was done the question for every unwieldy thing around the house was "can this go out in the shed?" I fear I'll never get my garage back. IMG_20240424_131258664.jpg IMG_20240224_124811039.jpgIMG_20240226_124512516.jpg

Sorry all. I thought I had attached thumbnail pics.
We also have a place "up in the hills" that we are evaluating whether to fix or level and start over.

Yeah, we're getting tired of the heat too. I would equate traffic to "people" who we are getting tired of as well (in general). I like it here where you can pick out your friends and ignore the rest.
Lucky for us, crime hasn't been much of an issue.

I retired last year at 64 and started Medicare at the beginning of this month. Leaving work took an enormous weight off my shoulders. I had a fascinating and rewarding career, but I don't miss working one bit. I'm looking forward to my wife finally stepping down as well.

Removed an above ground pool after we moved in and started this project. It wasn't supposed to get this big but just doing what the boss wants. It keeps me busy. I figure I'm about 70% done. I made the chairs, too.patio 2.jpg

68 yo here. Retired government worker. Retired 4 years ago. Wife is 10 years younger so she chooses to work for a while longer. I hope all with health obstacles recover soon. The construction projects look nice. I have enjoyed reading everyone's comments.

64, retired in 2015 from the Aerospace industry. Seems that in retirement I can't stop being busy so the last couple of weeks I've been busy helping a dear friend install a swim spa...

Plan is to install the spa flush to the deck, sloped ground so there are two choices, grade the hillside or...

Pull rock and build a suitable base...

You can see the grade we have to work with...

After that I'll be swinging by Dissent to see how the bumper order is coming along then going wheelin in the sierras!
