Regarding brand loyalty, that is something I think every manufacturer strives for. For me, Toyota has earned that by continually providing me (for the past 1.5 million miles) with vehicles that didn't break unless I neglected something. So whether someone wants to call it being a fanboy or whatever, there are legitimate and sensible reasons for sticking with a brand.

I'd avoid the GX until they get the engine issues sorted out.

And that same Toyota is having lots of issues today. It is not the same Toyota of 20 years ago. Others are catching up. I trust today's Frontier, Ranger and Gladiator more. I also trust the 2025 Camry and 2025 Sienna, not 2025 turbos from Toyota.

GX are affected too or just LX and Tundras?

Noy sure. I didn't read the article. I guess I just assumed it would be, since it's the same engine.

I just looked and it didn't mention the GX. Weird.

I'd be nervous to buy anything with that engine right now, though.

The victims are getting a pretty good deal, brand spanking new engines. I mean I would love to have a new engine after I put 50,000 miles on my GX

Well, I much prefer NA to a turbo engine anyway.

Not GX, just tundra and LX600, IIRC. The news article didn’t mention GX.

Toyota has stood behind their products for me. When yota bought back my first Toyota truck and gave me 4K more than I paid, they got my attention. When I can drive a yota and it holds its value, they got my attention. When I can buy a yota, drive cross country and a year later trade it for more than I paid, they go my attention.

Toyota has earned my loyalty, I’m not a fan boy, but they need to give me a reason to not stand by them.

I can tell you about the fords, chevys and dodges My family has owned. My favorite is my brothers recent dodge truck, it’s in the garage almost as much as my dads old Harley was.

Is that a lot? Was your dad's Harley in the garage a lot?

I'm in the same boat. And, I think there's a distinct difference between being brand loyal and being a fanboy.

When you've had nothing but good experiences with a brand, you tend to stick with it. My Dad's Corolla growing up, my brother's Corolla I learned to drive in, and all of my Toyotas have treated me well. So, I stick with them.

But, if I have issues, I'm not going to keep blindly buying a product. And, I'd also buy another brand if Toyota doesn't offer a comparable product, or if I just like something else better. For one example, I plan on getting something sporty in a few years. I am most likely going to get a Nissan Z, unless Toyota comes out with something else I like better before then.

It seems like the newer fuel economy and emissions regulations are screwing up a lot of things for Toyota lately. The 2GR- FKS fake Atkinson motor has been a little more problematic than previous truck engines. The new Turbo 3.4 is obviously having its share of troubles. I'm hoping that the turbo 4 cylinder won't have the same issues, but who knows at this point.

I thought it was common knowledge that Harley’s spend lots of time in the garage. But yes, it was there what seemed like lots of time to me when I was growing up.

I posted this on the Ruger Forum discussing Toyota quality. Re-posted here as an edit!

I/We have had two FJ40 Landcruisers, four pre- Taco 4WD p/u's (one went 325K before I sold it), two Rav4s (one AWD, one 2WD), and, currently, a 2019 SR5 Premium 4Runner in about the last 40 years

We've also had a "GYP"/jeep (worst POS=cost more to repair than the payments were for one year!), Ford Bronco (2nd worst POS), Dodge Ramcharger (poor cooling system) Scout II 4WD (Diesel-BAD idea), several Nissans (second best after Toyotas), Subaru Brat (better than the GYP). Spent a fair amount of my time during the 70's and 80's poking around the Mojave and Colorado deserts after reptiles. Two years on Forest Service roads doing my MS thesis on black bears, along with 20+ years with US Fish and Wildlife Service, where I drove just about every 4WD imaginable on wildlife refuge roads, NF roads, farm roads made of "gumbo", sand, through floods, etc.

Not counting ~50 years of hunting upland game, elk, wild pigs and deer. Worked ~2-4 years as a part-time guide on wild pigs and deer while in grad school, using my Toyota P/U.

I'll stick to Toyotas, especially the Tacos and 4Runners (really a truck with an SUV body)!

My Frontier was likely the best AFTER the almost one dozen Toyotas I've had! Better than Pathfinder, X-terra, RAV4, Ford Bronco, Jeep Cherokee (the worst), & International Scout II.

I wouldn't be lifting a Gladiator and putting big ass tires on it to take it to the mall, personally. I just think they look like shit with the stock tires.

Toyota RAV4 is well on its way to outsell Ram's entire lineup in 2024. Stellantis are scumbags!
