Bluetooth Upgrade

Hello,

If I wanted to put Bluetooth functionality into my 4Runner SR5 , what do you guys reccomend?

Yeah I have heard about that. It’s gotten mixed reviews and seems somewhat tough to install, especially when there are those weird FM transmitter things. Is one of those FM things more viable, or are they prone to interference from other stations that might actually be on that frequency?

 

I have a Sirius XM head unit and I initially used it with the FM broadcast option; terrible. I kept getting bleed over from other FM stations. I finally decided to do something about it and purchased the USA Spec BT45-TOY from Crutchfield. It's a direct connection to the radio (I have the premium 10 speaker JBL radio) and offers Bluetooth, AUX input, USB charging and phone calls. It is controlled through the CD option but the CD still works. Initially I used the AUX connection instead of FM broadcast. Now I use Sirius XM app on my phone and play via Bluetooth for a much better sound than the head unit, either as FM broadcast or AUX input. You have to remove several pieces of the console and dash, but it's mostly snap fit. The BT45-TOY device sits in the glove box and the connection is a plug into the back of the radio. I installed in Feb 2020 and it's still going strong.

I used one of these in the last car I had without Bluetooth included. It worked well and super easy to install.
