Nice! Just bought my first 4Runner as well, also an 86!

Did you check the blower, located under the glovebox? Mine was filled with crap and was barley pushing air, cleaned it out and works good now.

As for the stereo, I haven't upgraded mine yet but I used to install car audio and security. Does it still have the factory system? Pocket or no pocket? Depending on what you have, you may need a dashkit. You'll definitely need a wiring harness to connect to the factory plug, you'll wire this to the new stereo of your choice. Crutchfield is a great resource.

How do I get to it to clear it out and what does it look like lol. Sorry I’m not super mechanically inclined.

All good. If you look under the glove box you'll see a cylindrical object with a plug at the bottom. There are three screws that hold it up in there. If you undo those screws you can pull the blower cage out, that's where all the junk will be, if there's any in there. You don't need to remove the glovebox, but it does help a little. Let me know if you still can't find it, I can send photos later when I get home.

Ok. You said “it makes a sound”, what exactly does this sound like? Does it sound like the blower motor is running? Or does it just make a single click, like a relay?

Is it just when the AC button is pushed in? Or whenever you turn the fan on? Sounds like you might have a bad relay. Usually the relay behind the dash will make a "click" noise when you change the fan position (Off-low-med-high). But if it's buzzing it sounds like the relay might be getting stuck.

Ya it just changes pitch when I press the ac button. Is the dash pretty simple to remove?

I don't think removing the dash is necessary. I'm not sure exactly where your buzzing noise is coming from, but I would just remove the panels/trim around the fan/AC controls and radio, which is simple enough. You'll also need to remove this to replace your stereo anyways. It's been a minute since I've removed these panels, but I believe you need to remove the fan and vent knobs (just pull them off) to pull that small rectangular piece off, there should be some screws behind there. Just be gentle and take it slow, and use plastic panel popper tools! You can buy a set of those on Crutchfield as well, probably Amazon too. They'll come in handy when removing any type of panel or cover that you don't want to damage.

Ok so it’s the relay. I replaced it still no power getting to the blower. Maybe the blower motor is shot?

Finally got a can but now when I go to put the ac on the buzzing is coming again from that relay. Started doing it the other day but I turned it on and off really fast a few times and the fan came on.

Regarding stereo, go to Crutchfield. The will tell you what fits and how to install it.

    Not the blower motor.
I can feel the relay like vibrating when I turn it on physically and audible

That relay is bad when it chatters like that. Replace it. They are not expensive.

We are talking about the AC - does the blower work when you turn it on without the AC? Say with heat or defrost? And what is the relay labeled that you replaced?

It would be labeled on the underside of the box cover.

Relaxed the resistor. Fan comes on now but it’s really weak
