From what I saw it was just because of the way the latches are attached to the box.

    4x4Runnerr, sir

You had the Thule Motion XT Alpine installed on your TRD Pro. Any reason why you went with Thule Pulse Medium Model 614 later? Was there any issue with the Motion XT?

    Thanks

I believe that was someone else that had the Alpine box. I've only had the Pulse Medium box. Reason for that was it fit in the TRD Pro rack perfectly and didn't block the sunroof.

Thule Pulse M fits the TRD pro rack flawlessly.
Unfortunately Thule won't warranty it because they says it isn't compatible.
Doesn't matter though because I have cargo box that fits!!!
Thanks to 4x4runnerr and everyone for the help!

Bought the Pulse Medium due to fitment on the TRD Pro Rack I bought for my 21' SR5. I am going to have the top painted gloss white to match my runner and reduce impacts from exposure (in Florida). but will only use when traveling. Its a simple on/off

Luckily, I don't need to carry items as long as you guys, but I found that Plano 36" rifle cases make a nice, low-profile fit in my TRD Pro rack, while still using the forward Top Rail to "pinch" it in. All I need to haul is miscellaneous work-related items that are rarely needed, but when needed, I can't be without.

Removed the foam inserts, and I get 36.2" x 5.7" X 16.3" (internal dimensions) storage in each of the two.

Can you take a picture of how you attached the zip ties? I just got the same box for my TRD Pro and am going to install it this weekend!

Same question: I have the same Thule box as MR4 posted above, but haven't tried installing. How'd you do the zip ties?

I did the TRD PRO top rack delete and have been very happy. The top rack just got in the way for mounting.

Just wanted to say thank you to all as this forum once again is so helpful. I just got my TRD Pro rack. Interestingly with all the back orders that everyone is experiencing (Gobi 20 months) my dealer actually had one left in stock. I researched over and over to confirm it could actually fit in my garage as well as being able to fit my Yakima Sky Box on top. Both ended up working out! Thanks again for everyone’s help!! 80BF665D-8804-4D4D-8805-437539AE763A.jpg

I've always owned "Pack-a-Sport" roof cargo boxes. Almost everyone, Thule included, uses stamped plastic for their boxes. Pack-a-Sport makes theirs out of the same method as what a camper shell ("toppper" for you mid-westerners) is made out of. They are bullet proof and I assure you, will not melt in the Arizona sun.

    https://www.packasport.com/

They have changed hands a few times over the years, but they seem to have kept to their original construction. Mine is over 20 years old and still going strong. (System 90xp) I also had a System 115 and stupidly sold it.

Hey Spyder918…. Thanks, I’m super happy about it. I know some people don’t love the TRD rack, but it’s a good look IMO and very well built. I wish I was handy enough to remove the original rails and install the TRD, but I had the dealership do it. Putting my Yakima on was tricky just needed to size up the rails and cargo box clamps , but figure 1st time is always the hardest!

I apologize for the immensely late reply. I don't own skis but I don't think adult skis would fit. Internally there's 61" of length space.

Just curious, what would be the major difference between lower rack rails or higher on the TRD pro rack? I only tried the higher position as my Yakima sky box 16 seemed like there was no way it would fit in the lower position. Before I attempt to try it this weekend , I was just wondering what the real difference is. Assume gas mileage goes down, but from a pure ease…..would assume upper position takes the cake. Any responses are appreciated!

hey everyone! Did we ever get a inner dimension on this TRD PRO rack? I have a SportRack Vista XL cargo box (shown here on my wifes 2019. I would like to put a PRO rack on my 2016 Limited as Ive always liked them. Wondering if this specific box would fit it on the lower tubes. Boxes width is 39". Im thinking it will, but just wanted to confirm!

Reviving this thread cos it helped me make a decision on the Thule Pulse M for my Pro rack. I’ll post pics and thoughts once it delivers and I get it installed. Thanks again to this forum and my fellow 4R owners!

Ha! I guess you are the reason why this old thread just popped up in my feed. ;)

I was scrolling through the posts (and before I realized it was from 2019), I saw one of the Thule racks a member had posted that was both silver and black and fell in love with it....only to look on Thule's website....and realize it's apparently no longer made. Doh.

What's the experience for reaching the cargo box key lock and opening the box and retrieving my gear with these boxes shown in these posts that look like they are set pretty far back?

I am 5' 4" and will be standing on the rear door sill to do everything. It will most likely be the Yakima Skybox 16 and I will mount it on the top tube level of a TRD Pro rack.

Would love to hear your experience to see if this will work for me. I don't mind pushing the crossbars forward and hanging over the moonroof. That's how it is on my Highlander and access is easy. If you are 6 feet tall, my mileage may vary!

It’s a bit tricky but actually adds a bit of security since the lock is super close to the upper bar.

I have that door jam step but don't like to use it. Do you have to use it?

I have a grappling hook I keep inside to drag stuff to me, so my hope is that I can stand on the door sill, open the skybox16 with the key and latch and see inside to use the grappling hook to do the rest. Thanks.

I mean, you don’t HAVE to, but to install the box clamps on the non-opening side, you’ll need some height or you’ll have to climb on top of the roof. This is my experience with the Thule Pulse M.
