I bought a factory remote start for my 2016 4 runner. The dealer quoted me 4.5 to 5 hours to install at $180 an hour. Is this a realist time to install the wire harness and do the computer work? I don't know what to do at his point its to late to send the factory remote start kit back and $900 seems really expensive to have installed. The part number is PT398-89140. I also cant seem to find any instructions on how to install it myself. Thanks for any input.

I installed the factory remote start on my wife's 2017 Camry. It was an hours work but you did need Techstream factory tool to initialize the remote control module so that the EMS would recognize it.

Idea: Maybe return the factory remote start and do an Accessorides kit? I did one on my 21 Venture right after I got it - 3+ years later it's still working perfectly. Zero complaints. Easy DIY install and great support from the Accessorides people if you need it.

BTW, a bunch of us here are running the Accessorides kit and - as far as I know - we're all really happy with it.

These are the directions for the factory remote for the Camry. I do think that if you don't have the push button start, it is a different animal.....

Here's the directions for your part number. Glanced over them and they are quite a bit more involved than the Camry. I think you do indeed need a Techstream to finish it off and it seemed to say that you needed the Notebook and Techstream Lite (the consumer version) won't do it.

Thanks for all the replies, that's a lot more than I'm comfortable doing on a install. I guess my only option is to try and sell the remote start and get some of my money back. I'm past the return window on it.

yes, i watched a few videos on it, its easily a couple hour install for the factory kit sold thru Toyota.
You have to pull the entire lower dash out on both sides, including the glove box, the center console, the right side lower kick panels and door trim, stuff from behind the glove box, and wire a monumental crap ton of stuff up.
I am very very handy when it comes to wiring stuff and after watching how the OEM kit was done i gave it a hearty NOPE.

I bought Accessorides.... Have not installed it yet (hopefully in the next couple weeks - I will install my anytime camera at the same time), but after a couple hours of research decided it was the best one. Went with the "non-takeover" version as I don't mind restarting the truck after I get it in (makes me feel like it's a bit more secure). I'm a big fan of it not being subscription based.
