I have a "new" '22 as my daily driver. Love it. I find that the back of my lower leg always rubs on the body frame and running board when I get out of the vehicle, leaving a dirt mark. Standing on the running board when getting out prevents this......but I wonder if others are experiencing this. The stock running board has limited space to stand. I wonder if a different running board will allow me to stand more firmly when getting out. Thanks in advance, and I hope you're not laughing too much.

5’2”, no problem with egress in heels and slacks. But yes, it’s a two step dismount process.

Vehicle is stock height? Shimmy your ass to the edge of the seat and step out to the ground directly. Use the steering wheel as a handhold or install the KTJO4x4 A-pillar grab handle. Delete the running boards.

Sounds like you figured out the solution.

Ironically, if you don't need the running boards (which you shouldn't at 5'9"), they make it more difficult to get in, unless you use them.

    Yeah, or do that.

I didn't want any on my 4Runner, but I have found them pretty useful when reaching into the back, or tying stuff down on the roof. So unless you're in danger of ripping them off when off-roading, I'd keep them. Depending on the design (i.e. a continuous step), they help keep small gravel from hitting the sides of the car as well.

My wife and I are about the same height 5’5 she is a just a tad taller. We use our Tyger side steps for getting in and getting out. Makes it so much easier. I know everyone is different.

Thx. Removing the running boards on the driver’s side is likely what I’ll do. The boards do provide a cool aesthetic. Will keep it cool on the passenger side since my 5’4” wife will benefit by having them.

5'3" and I don't have this issue. Could be I'm just used to it/figured it out after years of driving lifted wranglers and large work trucks.

I'm 5'10" and don't use running boards (removed them the day I brought the 4Runner home because they look like crap...at least on an ORP, I see you have the Limited, and they look better on those). Since I have a 2" lift, I use the shimmy to the edge of the seat and step-down method, but I know it's only a matter of time until I face plant when getting out in a hurry, and I just hope that when that day arrives, nobody will be there to witness it. :p Just as a side note though; a person's height isn't always the best judge when it comes to stuff like this, inseam is far more important. I was flat-footed on both feet, with a bend in the knees on my R1200GS Adventure and I had taller friends who were on their tiptoes on it. Getting out of a "cage" is no different.

The edge shimmy / step down method may help preserve one's pant legs, but tends to wear the outer edge of the seat cushion, unfortunately. The A-pillar grab handle is a great help.

I got a mini trampoline to solve this problem when I park at the house and for time when I go shopping i park next to a curb or some other lowly vehicle like a prius that has enough oomph in order to let me rock crawl it to get out of the car

Why wouldn’t you stand on the running board? Step on your heels when exiting.

5’9” is a bit short to try to step over the entire board…

I'm 5'9. Sliders instead of running boards, still stock height. I definitely need to take care when exiting the vehicle, I have the same problem.

I scooch to the edge of the seat and set my left foot on the pavement, the slider is in effective as a step. My buddy has a Silverado with steps, I find I use them to get in/out.

5' 9" is average for a male from the USA. Shouldn't be a problem.

I bought a 3 and 3/4 inch step that I place on the ground by the door for my 85 year old mother who's only 5'3" but crippled by arthritis so the step helps a lot.

I'm 5'10", right foot on ground, left on door threshold, grab steering wheel and I'm in. Reverse to get out. Haven't needed to use the Predator steps and am thinking of replacing them with sliders some day.

6'2" & on my 2018 had OEM running boards & if I wasn't paying attention I'd get the back of my calf pants dirty if the running boards were I wanted to remove them but my 5'4" wife liked having them & they did help keep stone from kicking up from frt tires to the rocker panels, door,. I have OEM Predator step on current TRD Pro. I like them much better
