Anyone else had an issue with the shock shaft unscrewing itself from the mounting eyelet? Pictures attached for reference.

I've now had TWO rear passenger shocks with this issue. The first time I figured the mounting bolt was knocked loose/broke somehow, which caused the shock to come loose from the mount and drag/hit something to break the shaft. I had maybe 4 months of use. 1 off-road trip, on easy dirt roads in the desert. Again, I figured I hit something without realizing. Bought and installed the 2nd new shock, along with the Rago fab shock guards 2nd one, had on for 18+ months. A couple of harder/longer trips in the desert. But nothing extreme.

The shaft appears to have unscrewed/backed itself out of the mounting eyelet. I couldn't screw it back in, threads are no good. Looks like after the shaft unscrewed, it slammed into the eyelet a few times. Going try and fix using a friends tap and die.

Haven't found anyone else with similar issues. Nothing in the maintenance info from ICON, so I've never thought to check. Trying to avoid this in the future.

I would contact Icon and show them. There’s no way that should have happened.

Doesn't speak too highly for Icon shocks...

I've contacted their support, see how it goes from there before I start slandering them.

I'm willing to accept I caused 1, although unlikely considering the other rear shock hasn't been an issue. But I have a hard time believing "user error" on a 2nd install with additional precautions and protection.

One thing I'll add for anyone who is using the Rago guards, they protect great but you'll want to take them off from time to time to check your lower mounts. You cant see the lower mount once they're on. I might have caught this had I thought to take it off when I did my last visual inspection before a recent trip.

No one's slandering them. I just consider 1 failing, then the replacement also failing pretty dismal. I'd never heard of a shock mount unthreading from the shaft. Broken shaft? Yes, due to unusual circumstances. None of what you described as far as the wheeling done with these shocks falls under the unusual circumstance category.

Slandering was the wrong word choice. However, my initial thoughts were to spam all their social media and make noise wherever I could.

Aftermarket parts come with risk, but this feels like an easily solvable problem. And something I hope ICON recognizes as at least something they should advise customers on. Again, had I known this was a component that could fail or need attention, I'd have planed for it. They discuss all other parts that need maintenance, and have replacements for them. Zero info on this.... Guess I'll have to be more mindful in the future when doing pre-trip checks.

I’ve read quite a few reports of ICON shock failures.

Replace the lower shock mount/rod end. Don't try to retap it. Also, if there's damage to the end of the shafts, you'll need to replace those, too. Unsure of ICON's warranty, but I'd see how much they can help you. Going to basically involve a rebuild while you have everything apart, so find someone who knows what they're doing, unless ICON services it for you.

Icon's warranty is only 12 months. Call them, explain what happened (appears to be systemic quality defect on two shocks) and see if they can at least comp you on a couple of replacement lower fittings, which aren't expensive (~$50 apiece). Chase the threads on the shock shaft if needed, then install with Loctite.

Did you check the other shock? Is the lower fitting tight?

Icons have been bulletproof in my two Tacomas. Had them front and rear in my 2nd gen for 7 years. Have them in my 3rd gen for 5 years and counting. However, manufacturing defect can happen at any time.
