I just purchased a 24 orp 4 weeks ago the dealer I contacted found me one the color I wanted with 300 miles on it took them about 10 days. I would contact another dealer that wants to make a sale a little further from you.

Dealers in Canada never really recovered inventory after covid. My local dealer has 9 new vehicles in inventory. Not 9 4Runners, 9 vehicles period. Maybe Toyota Canada, which is technically a sales company 50/50 co-owned by Toyota and Mitsui, doesn't have the pull of American distributors.

Where are you located? I got 2024 SR5 last week.

Just monitor facebook marketplace daily and filter by date listed 'last 7 days'. Some people get declined on financing/lease and the dealership will post in-stock inventory on facebook. That's how I got mine. They posted 2 SR5s in two days and both got sold within a day. So you gotta check daily (maybe a few times in a day).

Even 2 days ago, Port Moody openroad toyota listed 2024 TRD Pro with early Sept arrival. So, don't give up hope.

5th gens, being ancient, shares almost nothing with other Toyota models sold today. With a 5th gen, you are likely to start seeing some OEM part discontinuations in 5 years, never mind 20.

Here is one for $39k. Call them and get it shipped.
    Barebone SR5 is a unicorn.

Here is one more. Call them and tell them the upcoming 6th 4Runner is the best thing Toyota has ever put out, and wish you could afford it. But your budget is $36k only so you have no choice but to get a stinking 5th gen.

Is there a legal reason someone in Canada can’t buy in the U.S. and drive it back? I genuinely don’t have a clue.

The entire Canadian market for Toyota is maybe equivalent to what Toyota sells in California alone in a year so yeah, Toyota Canada gets product but probably not as much they want.

I know that Toyota Canada won't honor the warranty of the vehicle bought in the States.

If it was going the other way, buy in Canada and taken to the States, Toyota Canada will not supply the compliance notice to the owner that is required to register it in the US.

This is verifiable bullshit. There are so many 4Runners out there that even if Toyota discontinues some parts, which they absolutely can't by law until all warranties expire, aftermarket will step in and provide these.

How do you know that? I did quick Google search, and official Toyota website says continental US, US territories, and Canada. If you can get warranty in Hawaii and Alaska, why not Canada? Unless they add Maple Syrup to gasoline.

It may have changed but when the dollar was at par 10 years ago they wouldn't honor the warranty. My brother was looking to buy back then and Toyota Canada told him explicitly they wouldn't.

That's why I said OEM parts. Warranty for most items in the vehicle expires in 3-5 years. The 5th gen being in production for so long, much of the tooling has experienced wearout, one visible example being the ridges on the 1GR heads, caused by cracks in the die. When a tool like that breaks completely, you can be sure Toyota won't spend the $100k or so to replace it. Yes the aftermarket can step in for some parts, but remember this is a forum where people think Toyota-branded oil is better...

Now that sounds like utter BS to me. When I bought mine, between all 6 dealerships in both the Springs and Denver area there was one (1) 4Runner in stock, a white SR5 (I checked/ went to each of them). 700 in the state....riiiiiiight.

The 1gr-fe is still in production for the current new generation of trucks. So yes, tooling will be replaced

For a second I was wondering what would they even put it in, but I assume it might still be used in other markets? :notsure:

Dealership lots everywhere were empty a few years ago, though. There are still a bunch of new 4Runners available in my area. Between 6 dealers, there are currently 72 new 4Runners available.

Obviously this doesn't help the OP.

Edit: out of curiosity, I searched the Denver area and according to CarGurus, there are over 200 new 4Runners available in the Denver area right now.

^That's a myth, at least in the US. The automaker is required to provide spare parts for the duration of the warranty. In the case of the 4R, that means 3 years for body and frame, 5 years for powertrain, and 8 years for a few emissions components like cats and ECM. https://www.thetruthaboutcars.com/2015/07/orphan-cars-10-year-parts-myth/ For commercial reasons (parts are more profitable than whole vehicles) automakers stock parts longer than the warranty period. However, that business case is upended if a tool wears out, a microchip goes obsolete, or if the part has low demand.

Going by past models (e.g. 2nd gen Tacomas which ended in 2015), interior parts and electronic components will be the first to get discontinued.

But I actually know of two 3rd gen 4Runner owners who have a parts car at the back end of the driveway...

Funny, as a very happy 4th Gen owner for 10 years and 162K miles*, that’s exactly why I didn’t buy a 5th Gen.

    * Bought it with 96K. Now at:

I would guess Toyota is trying to pull what they and many manufacturers did when covid hit. Lower supply and raise the price. Makes the dealers happy and rich, Toyota gets full price for each unit. Less employees needed. Everybody happy, except the buyer.

OP, it looks like they have two 4runners in stock in Edmunston, NB...(both SR5 though...) One in Sherbrooke (also an SR5 and they keep wanting me to talk to their virtual assistant in french so I'm keeping moving)...

No idea where you are but figure out how far you can make it without taking time off from work and loo everywhere in that area. Sometimes small dealers have something sitting around when city dealers have none...

There is zero benefit to the manufacturer as they sell it to the dealer for the same price either way and the dealer makes out like a bandit. And they sell less units, so they make less profit.
