Hello fellow 4runners...it's been nearly 2 months now I haven't posted any new threads. But why someone might ask ? Well i just been busy with work and getting well acquainted with my 4runner....I drive a pre-owned 2014 4runner Limited almost approaching 100,000.Now the focus of this thread is the F-GR1 engine that's inside this amazing vehicle.eversince I purchased it back in April of this year lately I have been racking up speeding tickets.both local and on the highway.this never used to happen that much when I had my 2010 Altima.that F-GR1 engine is truly a legendary beast and I think it's gotten a hold of me as find myself having that urge to speed alot on the highway most often doing 80mph.i just cant seem to drive at 40mph and be okay with it..i get that "need 4 speed" feeling.its like I can't control it's power and I don't mean that in a bad mechanical way.this 4runner reaches past 60mph in less than 15 seconds and it doesn't take too long to slow down either.what I'm trying to say is that I'm picking up bad habits that can get me and the vehicle in a lot of trouble with law enforcement.too many tickets and it's license suspension and impounded vehicle.thanks all for listening I just needed to get this off my chest.

I am glad you like your 4Runner, but keep in mind that it is a heavy SUV. Because of that, many smaller cars will out-stop it. So if you are speeding, make sure to leave a lot of stopping room so you don't end up rear-ending someone. Also, make sure your tires are in a good condition, as worn tires will make it harder to stop.

I'm in love with my 4runner...my neighbor also got himself a limited 4runner in white also lol lol.we are the only 2 on the street with the same vehicle lol.i need to take it easy as it's unsafe for myself and other drivers on the road.otherwise it's like I'm possess by the 4runner when I'm driving it.its the kind of power I have never experienced before in a vehicle.and now it's taking a toll on my safe driving ability.thanks for your advice I really appreciate your understanding as well

Is this a joke? I haven’t had to worry with speed or getting tickets since I have the 4R, which is great!
Sure it can get to 80mph but it is slow to get there and doesn’t have passing power compared to what I use to have.

don’t get me wrong, I love the truck and love the engine for what it’s meant for, which is not a speed machine.

if you really are driving that fast in NY, I would suggest you be careful because the 4R is not a sports car nor does it have the stopping power and maneuverability of something like and X5M, a Macan/Cayenne or anything like that regardless of the XREAS that’s on the limited. You can do a lot of damage!

I bought the wrong trim. Where do I get the "need for speed" trim you have? It wasn't offered at my dealership so I chose the "slow as f***" trim. Quite happy with it, but jealous of you that you have this beast of a 4Runner, making you rack speeding tickets.

I agree. I'm getting some break-in, shake-down miles on mine, then I'm gong to get a tune.

@semprenissart bro chill out...nowhere in my thread did I compare the speed, passing power to any sports car.that was never my intention.you totally miss the mark here.and I'm not even gonna compare it to a BMW or Benz SUVs.im just talking from my own personal experience with driving it daily COMPARED to what I was used to previously.so don't get toxic.the first guy who responded to my thread understand me completely.and I thank him for that.its okay to offer advice and correct someone where u think needs correction.im not a genius but be respectful it's all I ask

1GR-FE and what's this power you speak of? Nothing about my Runner gives me a sense of speed. It's so slow the AC is slow to cool the interior. :smashpc:

I understand, the 4Runner is the quickest vehicle I've owned (by a smidge) and it's fun letting it rip.

If you think the 4Runner has a lot of power you should ride a 1974 Honda CT90. With a claimed 7 horsepower, it'll knock your socks off compared to a T4R.

That's the big Altima energy taking.

I do find myself speeding--when I drive almost any other truck or car. Set the cruise to 85 for an entire tank on the last leg of my trip and got an eye watering 11 mpg.

You've got it all wrong. @Limited off-road has the F-GR1 engine. Waaaaaaay different than the 1GR-FE that the rest of us mere mortals have. I'm really surprised that @Limited off-road is so impressed with the 4R. He had the "Altima power". Those are monsters.

I totally get what the OP is saying. Of all the 4Runners I own, the 4Runner is by FAR the quickest. The 4.0L 6cyl has 100% of the power you can get from it. Proceed with caution.

Am I the only one that drives slower in a 4Runner? I’m coming from a Silverado with a 5.3, but my average speed has gone down. Not sure why, maybe the eco light? Or maybe I want my trips to last longer?

    I used to drive 80.

Then I got crushed between two 18 wheelers.

    Now I drive LIKE I'm 80...
