I just can’t see the reassembly of the new Tundra at the dealers to be as good and consistent as a factory assembly line. I wonder if Toyota will have the techs go through specific training for the procedure of swapping out these engines. It’s not like the techs are doing unfamiliar, complicated twin turbo engine changes on a regular basis.
100,000+ engine R+R’s are a bit daunting and to have them done correctly without mistakes will be challenging.
I saw somewhere the resale value of the new generation is actually equal or less than the previous generation.
For me, I wouldn’t touch one until at least 2027.

An engine R&R is simple. You don't need specialized training. If you're a certified auto tech it's an easy two-day job (day and a half).

Having just bought the 5th gen the 1st weekend after the 6th gen was revealed (April), this bums me out a little bit - I was hoping to have the last year 5th gen (maybe there will be a 2025?). Oh well... at least I have a 5th gen. I probably would have kept driving our 2001 Infinti QX4 (210,000 miles on the dash).

This idea of continuing the 5th Gen makes zero sense to me. Toyota's suppliers would've already been winding down on 5th Gen parts, Toyota isnt going to have 5-10k vehicles worth of extra inventory "in case" they need to keep building an out of date vehicle, and especially not when they already have 2 new vehicles in-segment rolling out. The worst case scenario would be there's no MY2025 4Runner, Toyota diehards that HAVE TO HAVE a new SUV shell out an extra $10 grand or more an LC or GX, and Toyota maybe brings the 4Runner back to North America next year with even more bugs worked out and their quality rep intact.

Toyota’s experiment with North American designed vehicles have been a cluster.

Go back to do everything in Japan! Stupid contributions from NA team have been their boy racer, ‘Mercia! loud designs and stupid suspension seats, badly engineered drive train, etc…

American designed, built in Mexico Toyota - no different than just buying domestic offerings

These are not tractors. It’s an engine that has separate cooling systems for each turbo along with the separate engine cooling, tons of liquid connections to leak. Many more sensors and plastic connectors to break, broken plastic harness retainer clips, maybe a pinched wire…..etc…..on an engine they probably have never worked on before….the cab will probably have to be lifted and steering and controls disconnected….and have it all go back like it left the factory?….I’ll take a bye…..

I wouldn’t keep a truck with an engine replaced by the dealer. I don’t even trust them to change my oil. It looks like they have to lift the cab off the truck to do this engine work too. No thanks.

More likely to be accurate at face value. Parts shortage means prioritizing higher-profit models (Land Cruiser).

Even 5th gen had stupid part shortages, like the TRD Pro center caps.

Oh, I get it. They are not bicycles, nor spaghetti sandwiches, nor green eggs and ham. They are Toyotas, or trucks, or rigs of some such thang (that's my attempt to rhyme with ham).

We can dream though. A 5th Gen Classic model for people that want a proven and reliable vehicle and the 6th Gen for people that want a flashy and gimmicky vehicle.

Today’s big farm tractors are no longer simple. They have been made to be every bit as over-complicated, over-priced, fragile, plasticized, and unreliable as today’s automotive offerings. Too many emissions controls, too much fragile electronics and computers. Just too, too complicated by unnecessary gadgetry on today’s farm tractors. Today’s tractors are over-priced junk compared to the bullet proof farm tractors of the ‘70s, ‘80s and early ‘90s.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
I am not involved in agriculture so I am way out of date. I had an old grey market 2cyl diesel Yanmar 4wd tractor to maintain a 30ac parcel in the Sierras I use to own, I sold it with the property. I wish I would’ve kept it, great little machine. Perfect for dragging around larger logs in tight spots my trusty old Honda Foreman couldn’t do. I think the model designation was YM1500.

They still make the 70 series Land Cruiser which is a 40 year old platform, as far as all the tundra engine replacements, I had the intellectually disabled techs at the stealership do warranty work on my 22 4Runner where they had to get behind the passenger vent, they scratched the shit out of my dash trying to pry it off. I can only imagine the level of fuckup they will do replacing an engine

Did you speak with the Service Manager in an attempt to have them address the shortcomings from the intellectually disabled techs that worked on your rig for this repair? What was the outcome?

Not who you asked, but whenever I try to give the shop manager a heads up when somebody fucks something up (not even trying to get anything), they just make excuses or try to tell me it was like that before.

I think the managers already know better than we do, so the ones that care probably have better techs working for them already.
