So I wasn’t impressed with the 17801-YZZ13 replacement engine air filter and had the parts guy order me the factory original (Denso Made in Japan) 17801 -38051…. The only caveat was I had to buy all 10 because the local dealership doesn’t stock them because they are $5 more expensive. He made me a deal for $200 so I got them.

How many years can I keep these in storage? They are being stored in a climate controlled environment away from any sunlight. I potentially have 2 decades worth of air filters…lolIMG_1809.jpg

I'm sure you can sell them for a premium to the OEM ONLY FOREVER owners.

Shouldn't be a problem, I change mine every 10,000 miles so you have a 100,000 miles worth :)

This was my concern of "overstocking" on the Memorial and 4th of July sales. I did end up just getting 3 and about 8 filters. I did like the idea of buying as many as possible, but had concerned about the filter elements breaking down (even in climate controlled environments). Probably just paranoid, but I wish I knew the official verdict on this as I like to stay stocked up on things.

I'm curious about this. Is that an eye test thing or did you use it and find that it performed differently somehow?

My last 2 have been the YZZ version, and I have not noticed anything negative.

It was an eye test thing. My guess is you get less filtration but faster air thruput on the yzz13 thus better mileage. But I like the idea of the attached prefilter (the thing that looks like a white scotch brite)…. IMG_0674.jpg IMG_0675.jpg

Stay tuned and I will let you know in 10-15 years if the rubber has started to dry-rot. They will probably cost $200 a piece by then.

The pre-filter on the original is nice but the YZZ version has more pleats.

I’m sure they are both fine. I just wanted to put back what I was taking out from the factory in Japan.

UPDATE** I just looked up number of pleats vs depth of pleat and it’s like arguing religion, politics, and oil change intervals….

My dealership carries the thicker pre filter one. I was able to purchase only one a while back.

I saw it on Amazon also but
I do not recommend buying Genuine Toyota Parts off of Amazon unless it’s an actual Toyota Dealership as the seller. Lots and lots of videos about knock off filters on Amazon and Toyota seems to be one of the biggest.

I looked at Amazon just now: The $28 one is from Toyota of Miami - I’m sure it’s lagit the $32 is from Amazon and Sold by Amazon…. I’m not sure how I would feel about that. I know getting genuine Toyota filters at WalMart is a safe bet, so I would think Amazon has done their due diligence. Just beware when it’s some random seller and being fulfilled by Amazon. That’s when you might get crap instead of quality.

I got mine from a Toyota dealer on Amazon recently for $32 so you got a great deal at $20 each.

Only 14 orders this year? My wife did that last week. Ha ha. We had a guy on a construction site last year that found out his stay at home wife was donating half his salary every week to the church unbeknownst to him. I replied my wife gives half of my salary to the good lord as well. Lord & Taylor

I'm glad that I'm in the 'buy once, cry once' camp. Back in '16, I bought an AEM, dry type washable filter for $47.
It gets washed at every oil & filter change and it will last the life of the truck.

I disagree, they are in storage and I never intended to sell them. They are authentic (which was my biggest concern and the only reason I go to the dealership.). Most of you got point of the post which was for humor…. And I was curious if there were any special storage concerns.

I have never heard of Sparks??? I’ll have to check them out.

UPDATE** I just checked them out. They are for Toyota what ECS Tuning is for German cars. I have them bookmarked and will probably use them in the future. Thank you!!

I have done K&N on some of other cars but this one sounds interesting because you said it’s dry. My K&N were a two step cleaning process if I remember correctly. I obviously won’t be needing any filters for awhile though.
