lol I bet they are redesigning components. Parts shortage is just saving face.

    https://www.bloomberg.com/news/arti...us-launch-of-popular-suv-on-shortage-of-parts

Toyota Motor Corp. is delaying the launch of an updated version of a popular mid-sized

SUV in the US market due to supply constraints on key parts shared with other vehicles.

The Japanese automaker had planned to start US deliveries of its latest 4Runner SUV this fall, but now doesn't expect to begin shipping them until December or early next year, a company spokesman said Wednesday.

The 4Runner has long been one of Toyota's bestsellers in North America and the highly-anticipated sixth generation of the vehicle was expected to provide an extra boost to the brand's sales this year.

But many of the Japan-built SUV's key components are shared with sibling models such as the retooled Lexus GX and all-new Land Cruiser, which also are in high demand. That has depleted Toyota's pooled parts bin, forcing the delay, the spokesman said.

Toyota sold 66,550 4Runners in the US in the first half of 2024, which was up from 50,736 a year ago.

The whole "article" is about 3 paragraphs. Just says pushed back until December or early next year due to parts shortage and mentions shared parts with in demand siblings the Land Cruiser and GX550 being depleted in the "shared" parts bin.

What components do you think they are redesigning? (just curious)

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.

The new Tacoma (with the same 4cylinder turbo the 6th gen will have) sales numbers are the worst in history they probably pushed it back because they’re scared they won’t sell especially since the prado 250 is out and they will catabolize each other

I bet they are scrapping the car and redesigning the interior packaging. That rear leg room is atrocious

That would take more than a few months and cost millions. The new 4Runner is identical to the Tacoma in every single way except it doesn’t have an open bed. I bet they found problems with the transmission the new Tacoma has a pretty big recall on their new 4th gen Tacoma transmissions

I heard they wanted to rebadge it the 6Runner and they have to have all the 6R emblems updated.

Toyota is officially replacing 100,000 Tundra engines. That's going to cost them a pretty penny at $30k/engine (parts + labor).

I bet they’re using all their resources to build replacement engines for the Tundra inventory.

Ok, you own a business selling something for $30k. It costs you how much to build and sell? You sell all of your products for what it costs you? You go out of business before rhe first one ships?

It doesn't cost Toyota $30k to replace an engine. It probably doesn't cost Toyota $10k.

How much do you think a tech gets paid, their hourly rate, not what you pay the shop, but their hourly? It takes less than 15 hours to remove and replace an engine. So, Toyota pays what, $85/hr, or <$1500 in labor and $5000 for the engine they build themselves. So, a warranteed engine probably costs Toyota $6500, not $30k.

Pull a RAM move and continue to offer the previous generation as a "Classic" model. I would actually support that. Give people the option between a 5th gen or 6th gen. Would be interesting to see which sells better if both were available.
