I don't feel retired 'cuz my wife sure has a lot of shit for me to do...
Been in one 4Runner or another since '89

 

66 ..my 23 ORP is my first 4Runner. Had an 84 Landcruiser though....rustbucket. Have the Medicare card of proof. Can't say it really excites me. But I am still here. I do occasional flight instruction. Keeps me on my toes....

 

69, closer to 70. Tacoma owner for many years prior to purchasing my '23 SR5P

Just joined this forum. Bought a 2024 4Runner after many many years of wanting one. Drove an 06 Tacoma for 17 years. Decided on grabbing the last production of the 4.0 V6 engine
Age 71, living the retired life after 40 years of work. 10 years self employed, 30 years as a Teacher. Retired High School Teacher. I don't consider myself fully "retired" My wife has a long and constant list of stuff for me to do.
I wish I had been less talented.

I can't even imagine the concept of retiring. I could, but, I've been working for myself for so long that it's not really work. Plus, I'm always coming up with new things I want to learn and do. Building a game in Unreal for Fortnite. Not what I thought I'd be doing at this point in my life, but there you are.

Plus, my father died two years after retiring. We'd always known he had Parkinson's, but somehow he kept it under control until he was unable to keep his balance and basically was forced to retire. The man was a giant. Left my mother taken care of, the grandkids all taken care of, did everything for everyone.

I missed the window to die young and stay pretty. Honestly, as a kid assumed I'd be dead by 40. Now, I'm grinding it out til the end. Thinking I want to see if I can get 500k miles on the '21 4Runner. Only at 25k, I need to get on that.

 

Hell, you have many miles still left on your odometer. Work as long as you feel like it. If you don't have a plan for when you retire, don''t!

 

Yes! The 1 GR and the A750 should go forever. I'm hoping mine is my last car. I'd like to see 500K as well.

65 here with my 1st 4runner.. I have owned a tundra in the past. Back to Toyota for the reliability.

 

Be 71 in September. Been retired since September 2020. Doing more stuff now for my two children since i retired then when I worked. Lol. Have own 4Runners for many years. First was a 1999, 2004, 2007. Now a 2011 and a 2018

 

75 here. Retired 3 years ago. On my 4th 4runner (04,15,17,24). Ya I'm an old fart.

My 10th car was '84 4Runner I bought used from my dad. My 40th car is the '24 4Runner I bought a few months ago.

 

Turned 68 in April and family fleet is all Toyota. Bought my first T4R new - 2000 3rd gen. Now have a 2005 4th gen purchased used in 2021. Also have a 2017 Tundra purchased new in 2017. After I was fortunate enough to retire in 2012, went to the local community college and got an associates degree in Auto Tech for fun. Do all the work myself (except tires) which I enjoy and have saved tons of money over the years. Have been using the BlueDriver scanning tool but plan on upgrading to the Mongoose/Techstream set-up when I encounter a job that needs bi-directional control or reflashing capability. Don't have a lift which is starting to get old but don't have the room.

 

Bagman - Are you moving to Montana soon? It's a wonder we made it out of the 70's.

 

So this is a good question. Is old fartdom an age or an attitude? Feel free to discuss.
I think it may be a combination. At some point, if you are young and acting like an old fart, there may be a less charitable term to describe you. On the other hand, I don't know that you can set a specific age on it.

 

What a great idea. I'm pretty good around the vehicles but it doesn't take too long to get above my skill set such as "bi-directional control and flashing". I've also noticed over past couple of years that I'm slower to recover from a big job with lots of squatting or getting all contorted under the vehicle. Yeah, a lift would be sweet.

I am LOVING my 2022 SR5 Premium 4WD that I bought pre-owned / certified last November. I came out of a 2006 Tundra SR5 TRD 4WD Double Cab that I bought new for myself back in ‘06.

A lot of folks label the 4RUNNER as a dinosaur, but for me, coming out of my ‘06 Tundra, the ‘22 T4R was like a breath of fresh air, and totally “modern” to me. And yet, it instantly felt very familiar, like an old friend. Having kept the ‘06 Tundra for something like 17 years, I expect to hold on to this ‘22 T4R for a VERY long time. I do not feel that I’m going to be tempted by the new 6th gen T4R what so ever. I embrace the old schoolness of my ‘22 model.

Wifey has a 2021 Toyota RAV4 XLE Hybrid AWD. NOT the plug in version. We both absolutely love that RAV4.

We have a house on 6.5 acres in the Texas hill country. In retirement, I keep very busy working on our house and property, and helping neighbors when needed. My wife has a never ending “honey do” list to keep me busy. With everything I want to do or need to do around here, I don’t know how I ever had time to go in to work 5 days a week before I retired. Stuff around home just didn’t get done I guess. My joke with wifey is that I tell her I need to un-retire and go back to my old 40 hours a week job just so I can catch a break and take it easy at work. She’s always cracking the whip on me around home here. Ha ha.

She’s 5 years younger than me so she is still in the work force, employed by a university. She wants to keep working for a few more years, so I get to enjoy being home alone during the day 5 days a week and I can plug away at things that need to be done around here, at my own pace, being my own boss. Life is good, and happy Toyota owners.

 

Agreed Rick. I went to my 2019 from a '98 and this thing feels like it has "too much good stuff". And probably favorite part is the dinosaur power train. That 1GR/A750 combo will go forever.

Also part of old fart attitude is disagreeing with the "pundits" that bag on the "ancient brick" that "doesn't have any tech". I really don't need my truck to tell me what to do. I have a wife for that.

 

Damn! I don't feel that old. Turned 60 in December of last year. 27 years of active duty in the Corps and that sure as hell took it out of me. I ride a keyboard all day and work for a Lady (Wife) that hasn't given me a pay raise in 14 years!

 

If old fartdom is simply an attitude you can count me in. Ever since high school I've always described myself as a grumpy old man in a younger man's body. Now I say slightly younger man's body as I get older.

As for the less charitable terms - I'm also a self described asshole

I'll be 65 next week. Retired at 62, same as mom. But she only had 2 weeks of retirement, then 4 yrs fighting cancer that she lost. The day she died I told my wife at 62 I..am..done....working. I gladly took the Social Security hit. Still have my health and I take zero meds.

I ain't old. Hell, I'm an 18 year old that is trapped in a 65 yr old body.

 

I identify as an old fart. I guess I'm middle aged, technically. Nowhere near retirement, but I look forward to it!

I've owned 4Runners for ~22 years, although I had a Tacoma from March of '17 until January of '19. It just wasn't the right vehicle for me.

 

Will be 68 in January. Just bought my second 4R, a 2024 ORP. First one was a 2010 TE that I bought new and drove for 12 1/2 years.

 

I'm not sure about the old fart part but I'm 77 and can still climb under the 4Runner to change oil and lube the driveshafts.
28 years active and Reserve US Army and the then another bunch of years as a firefighter. I was fortunate enough to marry a younger physician 40 years ago and she keeps me healthy or at least active ! Fun to be here.

 

This thread is working out great! Just about every post has some point I agree with or at least strikes a chord with me.

 

Will be 63 soon. Definitely an old fart. Still working and plan to keep it that way for a while. I've owned Toyotas off and on over the years, the first was a 1979 HiLux that I bought used. That thing refused to die. I carried a Honda dirt bike in the back of that truck all over the Sierras. The reliability of that truck was astounding. I am thrilled (mostly) with my 2015 Tacoma PreRunner and my 2019 ORP. I plan on keeping these two and don't see a need or reason to buy something else especially at current prices.

Like “Jet4”, I will be 71 in September and like “Rick G.”, I’m loving my 2022 SR5 Premium 4WD that I bought pre-owned. I retired from aircraft maintenance in 2012. Staying busy by day-hiking 2-3 times per week, helping my family and friends with projects and the ever present “Honey-Do” list. I’ve owned Tacomas, 4Runners and Camrys for the last 30 years. Looking to replace my wife’s 2007 Camry (only 83,000 miles) later this year with another Camry. My younger sister got me a shirt that proves I’m an Old Guy – but we rule!
