My experience was very similar. I came from a 2016 and 2020 Taco, and was surprised by the nosedive of the T4R. I initially test drove a non KDSS model and it was even worse than my ORP.

I do enjoy the softness of the suspension so have thought about Sumo spring bump stops as they are supposed to minimize nosedive and body roll.

Good video (if you can get past the "acting"). It's crazy how poorly the Fox 2.5's did compared to budget shocks.

I enjoyed the comparisons but I wish it was apples to apples for our purposes here.

With 4runner being heavier than Tacoma, they will get a shock that's valved differently and in some cases the companies do a better job with certain vehicles.

For example, I've had Bilstein 5100's on an F150 and they felt really good. I would rate them highly for that specific vehicle. On my Nissan truck and 4Runner they felt too stiff and would rate them as mediocre. Plenty of people love them on the 4runner though. All this stuff can be so subjective.

I’ve had a 2023 OR without kdss for about 2 weeks now. I put BFG ko3’s in the stock size on it and took off the predator steps, and that’s it so far. I did plan on 5100’s, but after driving my rig on a nearby dirt road with lots of washboards I’ve been impressed with the stock shocks. My 2015 silverado about went sideways on the same road at the same speed. Impressed with the new tires as well, they handled both mud and loose sand very well. For the time being I’m happy with just the tires, no shocks, no lift.

Good call, all you need are good tires to match your local environment and the 4Runner will take care of the rest.

They ride very well, surprisingly well. I was concerned at first, but they don’t seem loud or rough in any way compared with the bridgestones. The E rated ko2’s on my Silverado were much louder. I haven’t driven in rain or snow yet with the ko3’s, but then I did not have trouble with the ko2’s either despite their reputation. In mud, loose sand and gravel they seem great.

edit the tire store had set the air pressure at 36 cold, and I dropped the pressure to 32 psi without any noticeable difference.

That’s an autobahn shit show for sure.

FYI, I purchased my 2024 4Runner Off-road Premium today. Drives really nice. The nosedive was not as pronounced as I expected. Going to leave it stock for a while and get a longer term impression.

It's not bad under normal conditions but if you hit them really hard it definitely dives

I’ll let things break in and settle. I replaced the front shocks after a couple of years on the previous runner. Probably do the same on this one.
