So, I had to do an entire lift kit swap, due to rust breaking SPC UCA's, Toytec coils. Had a shop install a Dobinsons setup and Treaty Oak KDSS spacer kit. Well, they never opened the valves to free flow the system, specifically per Treaty's instructions and general KDSS knowledge.

I get home and see fluid dripping from the accumulator. After a few days spraying the shit out of the cover plate bolts, I gave up and drilled them out. I expected the worst and that's what I saw.

Aluminum has corroded from dirt and salt sitting on it, despite my washing that area for several years. I can only conclude that most of the damage was there before I purchased the vehicle.

I'm waiting on a new accumulator to arrive from Japan ($593). My hope is to loosen the lines, remove the fluid from the drain valve and swap out the accumulator. Then, hopefully find a dealer to refill it.

Problem is the repair manual states that both lines (4-total, front and rear) are removed before replacing the accumulator. Also, the lines must be replaced with two-piece ones that are able to be fitted - the original one piece ones can't be refitted, too complex a shape.

So, my question is: has anyone had luck replacing the accumulator without replacing lines? I don't see where I can gain any play front or rear. I only need an inch or so, just enough to thread in one side of lines.

One-at-this-price stripper. Bought new 34 yrs ago, a $13K leftover. Added Detroit TruTrac, 1”rear spring spacer and “pinstripes”… Factory AC kit and roof rack bought at dealer cost at time of purchase, still blows ice cold 32yrs later. 2022 AG ORP all stock.
The original lines look a bit dicey in the photos.

I saw a video where they loosened the lines from the frame mounting points enough to allow the lines to pulled outward, away from the frame. Then the KDSS subassembly could be maneuvered in place along w/ the line fittings being "started" in their respective threaded holes. It took a little fiddling, but they got it.

Here in Denver CO I've seen Groove Toyota in Englewood fixing KDSS leaks. If I was in same situation I would let them do the entire repair and warranty the work.

I agree letting a dealer do the job. I'm afraid it'll be difficult finding one near me who won't turn me away because of the lift and who may just say, nope, need new lines all around.

At least I now know that it's possible to do, even on my own or by another shop.

Curious if you got this job done or had a dealer look at it. I’m really shocked at how much the corrosion eroded the accumulator away. I’d imagine the lines themselves picked up some particulates since the material seems to have eroded most of the threaded hole away.

I'd be impressed if those lines could be re-used.

I'd probably break them just taking it apart.
