I would appreciate recommendations for dash cams you now use in your 4Runner. Amazon products? Inexpensive but functional. Don't really think I need a rear facing camera.
    Appreciate input. I have a 2024 SR5

What's your budget? I have this in my ride. It's SUPER simple to install, it looks OEM and the quality is excellent.

That does look like a clean and simple install. Brand new 4Runner....I wonder if install would impact my warranty?
Getting ready for my 1,000 mile oil change option on my dime. I'll ask my Service Writer.
Looks like a real nice and simple install. Thanks. It's in my Amazon cart!

They’re all pretty decent. My $30 Amazon one has been going 4 years and caught 2 accidents.

It doesn't impact the warranty. Why would it? You aren't changing the electrical system at all.

I have a Garmin DashCam mini 2 with the Dongar adapter. I love it. If you fancy one, I bought a second to rear face out the rear but I've decided not to so I'm selling it off.

I don't have a specific recommendation, but I do have an observation based on my acquiring a couple of dash cams to repurpose for a speed monitoring project in front of my house (long story, won't bore with details). Many of the cheaper dash (and other sorts of) cams seem to have no battery protection for settings, with the result that date and time must be set every time the camera is powered off for a time, then back on. That's an obvious inconvenience that you probably want to avoid.

I'm using Viofo 119 since 2019 and so far no complaints. Sure they have more expensive 4K ones as well.
    https://amzn.to/46fNPWD

I also have Blackvue 590x on my other 4runner since 2021.

I love the stick on dashcams as if ever they fail I can replace it very easily and quickly. The wire are hidden along the door rubber beading and under the carpet. Since these are very basic I install them on my friends cars as well.

So... dumb question here, but where would you mount a rear-facing camera? I have a Blackvue camera pair I was going to put in my Tundra, but I recently sold it and now own a 2023 4Runner SR5. the whole back window goes down, so where would I put the rear camera? Just looking for ideas. Thanks.

We went with FitCamX as well. We liked the OEM fit on the front camera and didn' mind the look of the rear camera with the Etsy 3D-printed bracket we found online. I almost wanted to get just the front, but glad we got the rear as well.

Did you install the extra fuse for the parking mode (recording on collision detection?). I just purchased the FitCamX for the 4runner, and thinking about getting this in case of collission while it is parked. I've heard concerns of battery drain, but I'm not sure if this is an issue with the FitCamX model for the 4runner. Thanks

Also, considering your speaker upgrade you got (read on another thread), but I will reach out to you on that thread not to derail this one.

If you wire the dash cam incorrectly and it burns up the fuse box or another system on the circuit, then warranty wouldn't cover your mistake. Otherwise there isn't any impact to your warranty.

I use a Rexing V3 with front and rear lenses on the same unit, saves me from having to wire up a separate rear camera. It's been super reliable. You can find them all over Ebay, for example: https://www.ebay.com/itm/276454913010

Rear camera is helpful if you're rear-ended.

Nope. I wasn't even aware that this model had parking mode. I wouldn't have turned it on even if it was an option. Like you mentioned, I heard it drains the battery and gets the unit very hot and causes it wear out even faster. The parking mode issue is (I think) for all model dash cams. Regardless of the vehicle it goes into.

Thank you for the recommendation! I have ordered the front/rear camera pack.

Question to anyone who has routed the rear camera wire - I see most routings go in the headliner along the side. I am concerned about interference with the curtain airbags. Does anyone know if this is an issue? Dropping the entire headliner would be ideal but its hassle I'd like to avoid. I don't want to compromise the function of the airbags though. Thanks!

    First off: You're welcome.

Now, I don't have the rear camera but if you run the wiring along the side it won't get in the way of the curtain airbags at all. The force by which the airbags deploy is so strong that nothing will get in the way. You don't have to drop the head liner, just use a plastic trim/shim tool and slide it into the side from the front to the back.

I just did this install last week (Wednesday?)

I was concerned about that when I routed the wire in the front passenger area. I ended up pulling the 2 bolts from the "oh shit bar" and routed the cable behind the airbag (clearly visibile). I wasn't too concerned with the one in the passenger rear, but routed the cable at the top of the plastic piece just below the headliner. I stuffed the extra cable in the rear corner in the cargo area as there was plenty.

Rear Camera looks great! I'm a big fan of the oem looking front camera though. FitCamx made a great product.

All in all, I'm happy with this product and it makes me feel safer driving the truck. In fact, I upped my deductable on my insurance policy to save some money (went from $500 deductable on collission to the max I had available through progressive - $2000).

The wire in question stays above the airbag apparatus, and even if the bag goes off, the wire isn't in the way.
