I have been the proud owner of a 2023 Toyota 4Runner TRD Off Road Premium in Lunar Rock since January of 2023. I optioned it with KDSS, Multi-Terrain Monitor, and Sunroof when I ordered it in August of 2022. My main goals for the vehicle were; (1) Comfortable daily driver. (2) Comfortable and reliable road trip vehicle. (3) A vehicle capable of tackling moderately hard trails. (4) A vehicle I could modify into a more capable overlanding vehicle, if I so chose.

Now I know that there are better vehicles for a daily driver and road tripping car, and my Family and I did test drive a Honda Passport and a Subaru Ascent, but none of us liked the Honda and the wife and I thought the front seats in the 4Runner were more comfortable than than the Subaru. Ultimately, I decided the the 4Runner would be more reliable, and had more options for future upgrades to make the vehicle more capable off-road.

Now for the build. Knowing I was going to be eventually adding weight to the vehicle in the form of skid plates, front bumper, winch, gear, and potentially a rooftop tent, I started with a lift from OME. I opted for the OME BP-51 with medium weight springs and OME upper ball joints. Overall, with drawer system installed, roof rack, skid plates, front bumper, and winch the rear lift is right around 2.5 inches with the front sitting at about 3 inches so it still has a slight rake. The install was pretty straight forward and only took a buddy and I about a day to install, between breaks and cooking the brisket.

Ride quality on road and off road was improved compared to the stock setup and has only gotten better as I have added more weight to the rig. Between decreasing the rebound and compression on the BP-51s and airing down the tires, the vehicle is much more comfortable off road, and living in eastern Washington I drive on plenty of rough, rutted, and basalt covered roads. On road with damping and compression turned up, the vehicle handles and rides great, though it can be a little rougher over some of the larger bumps, think really bad train track crossings. However, I really can’t recommend these enough and the ride just gets smoother the more weight I add.

Is that the Ancient Lakes area? Spent some time there earlier this year. Love the look of your rig.

Got a 4R for the exact same reasons you did. Sweet build.

Our is the Beatrice Silver build. :) Attached is the final decal my daughter designed and we stuck just above the "Limited" text. I can drop the lower design files if anyone needs them.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. The build has been going well and my son and I have embarked on several longer multi-day trips and everything has performed flawlessly so far. We are still dialing in what we want/need to bring with us and how to organize everything but we are having a great time figuring it out.

The first picture is from Umptanum Ridge Road in Eastern Washington. The second picture is along the Columbia River across from Frenchman Coulee, also in Eastern Washington and is near the Ancient Lake area. The third pic is from Bethel Ridge in central Washington.
