Hello everyone. This is my first post other than my introduction. I've been searching thru the threads regarding tires and I'm as confused as I have been for days researching on every site I can find. I thought I had my mind made up on the BFgoodrich K02's but I came across a forum that said they don't do well on wet roads. I found others say they do great. The other tires I've looked at are the Falken Wildpeaks, Nitto Ridge Grapplers and Goodyear Wranglers. I drive about 24 miles to work daily and it's about 25% country roads and 75% highway. I want an AT tire that looks great, does well on wet roads and is not too loud. What are your thoughts on the ones I mentioned or do you all have any other recommendations? I'm attaching a pic of a wheel/tire combo I saw in I Cincinnati that I absolutely love. K02's (bottom left) and a pic of the wheels I've decided to get. I was looking at FUEL wheels but my eyes keep going to the Mammoth Hunters shown here. I'm going to give them a shot. Thanks in advance for any input!Screenshot_20240717_134622_Photos.jpg Screenshot_20240717_090707_Photos.jpg

We have lot of tire threads. There's a search option at top right which you can use.
    upload_2024-7-17_14-4-47.png

IMO there is no perfect tire to do it all from the tires I've used.

Surely BFG KO2 Load C is my favorite to be close to do it all tire. Excellent in rocky, gravel terrain, deep snow. Still can do road trips. Light snow and ice is not its best.

Speaking of light snow and ice, Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac is the clear on this from the tires I've used. But they get little noisy quickly.

Now I'm running Toyo AT3. Its so far my favorite on road tire. Relatively light weight and comfy. Decent in snow and ice. Perform well in gravel. Haven't tested on a true offroad terrain yet.

Falken Wildpeak At3W also a good on road tire and decent offroad performance but not good as a higher in class KO2 or GY Duratrac imo. But they are relatively cheap, my 275/55R20 was $158 or 168 a tire in 2019/2020 from Walmart if I'm not mistaken and the 285/70R17 wasn't too expensive as well, bought at Discount Tire as far as I can remember. Both my sets Made in Thailand. Its great value for money.

My newest 4Runner came with Nitto Terra Grappler. Sure as a factory tire its better than Dunlop Grandtrek All seasons came with my other 4runners. But no where near the perfomance level of other 3 tires I mentioned above.

I've used continental terrain contact on a non-4Runner and it was pretty decent in gravel and snow as well.

Now there are new versions of popular tires like BFG KO3 & Falken Wildpeak AT4W. For my needs I look for tires with 3 peak mountain snow flake rating for winter conditions, load rating SL or Load C at the max, tires with relatively less weight.

Lots of great tire choices so it can be difficult to choose.

I believe the K02 is discontinued so perhaps look at the K03 which may have improved wet traction.

Out of your choices above, the Falken Wildpeak AT4W (a replacement for the AT3W) seems to be the most popular when I've searched. It also seems to be a bit cheaper than other alternatives.

Just replaced my KO2s with Baja boss. They crushed it driving ~4,000 miles through Idaho. 3 seasons rated.

    Hey @Diana1143
Mickey Thompson Baja Boss really are awesome, but aren’t that cheap and may be more tire than you need, with more aggressive tread than others. Somewhat heavy in weight. Decently quiet on road, when new.
Falken Wildpeaks (that I dubbed the new KO2), are absolutely great tires, slightly better price than Mickeys, but are heavier than many competitors. Decently quiet on road, when new.
KO2’s I don’t like at all for wet conditions and wouldn’t recommend them. I’m not interested in KO3’s till they prove to be much superior, my region. Even in SoCal, I’m not recommending them.

I can’t say I recommend Toyos even though they’re a tried and true premium brand, I have read too much negative feedback on this website regarding things like overall wear and balance.

I recommend for you these options that are more average priced, quiet on road, lighter weight, typically all weather rated:
    Michelin Defenders
    Continental Tires: General Grabbers
    Yokohama Geolander
    Kumho Road Venture

    GOODLUCK

For the price, I am looking hard at Kenda Klever's. 3PMS rated and the best price in the size I want. I wheel with 2 guys that have them on their Tacomas and they are impressed with the performance. Says they ride quiet, too.
Many will poo-poo and say you get what you pay for. This may be a case that breaks that rule.

When talking about the best all-terrain tire, there are two worth considering:

    BFG AT/KO2 or BFG AT/KO3

Me personally, i prefer the General Grabber AT/X
My opinion is that this is the best All Terrain tire. Wet, snow, ice, studdable, dry, heat, they do it all and they last forever. I love them and have never had a minutes issue out of them. I have been running them on every vehicle since 2014 and have amassed about 450,000 miles on them on various sets, and have one set on my daily driver with over 103,000 miles now and easily have another 20,000 miles left of tire tread.
I rebalance and rotate them about every 40,000 miles
When most people are thinking about replacing tires, i am just doing my first rebalance and rotate. I did my second rebalance and rotate right at 90,000 miles. Most peoples tires would be gone, and i was just doing my second rebalance. There is no BFGoodrich tire on the market that will hold a balance that long, i was having to rebalance my BFG AT KO almost every 15,000 miles to keep them from shaking. I owned 3 sets of BFG AT and 1 set of BFG KM3 and none of them would last, or hold a balance. I bought my first set of General Grabber AT in 2014 and loved them so much i have put them on every vehicle i get as soon as i get it. I take the OEM tires off on day 1 and replace them. These look great, ride great, and handle like a drag slick like they are glued to the road.
    They look real tough
They have a nice square edge rather than rounded like OEM tires
They have side biters on the sidewall to make it look tougher
They have a rim protector, the bead is deep so the wheel lip sits down in it so you cant curb your wheels
    They last practically forever
    They handle good
    They are quiet
They dont have problems in anything, sleet, ice, snow, rain, heat, heavy loads, hauling, they do everything exceptionally well.
I always get Load Range E, and they ride softer than most other brands C range tires. The LRE also lasts twice as long as the C range. You will be pleasantly surprised if you try these out.

Wildpeaks were cheap at first. Now one of the most popular.

I ran the KO2’s for a few years on my first 4Runner . I had no trouble with wet weather traction here in SW Florida but at around 20k miles they got very loud . Probably the best looking sidewall of all AT tires .

I plan to put Cooper Discoverer Road and Trail AT on mine in a couple weeks.. supposed to be good all around on different road conditions and decent off road but its not considered a hardcore off-roading rock crawling tire.

I had 2 sets of Falken Wildpeaks, 1 on my 4runner and other on a Subaru. Very very good on wet roads..tend to be a heavier tire. I believe the new Wildpeaks AT4W are not as good on wet roads from some things ive read.

Toyo AT3 also an option I might go with at last second instead of Cooper, I need to research more

KO2 ive read also arent best on wet. I have a friend that had ko2 that lives up a hilly road and he always complained about them slipping when it was wet and cold. He eventually swapped them for Wildpeak AT3 and was much happier

News Flash! I see the YOKOHAMA GEOLANDAR tire getting mis-spelled on this board all the time. It is not GEOLANDER with that second "E". It is an "A" between the "D" and "R". GEOLANDAR. Look VERY closely again at the pic that was posted above.

Cooper AT3 is about 1 of the best for wet roads. We have used Coopers on a bunch of vehicles and they haven't let us down. Currently we run Cooper AT3 4S LT, in 275-70-17, they are 10 ply rated, because most of our off road in volves rocks.

BFG KO2, General Grabber AT3, and Cooper Discoverer AT3 are the staple AT tires. I've never had any issues in the wet on any of them and the problem with the internet is that things get parroted when people have no experience. The same tire on a heavier vehicle will do worse in the wet as will a tire that's overinflated. Hell weather too because rain in a colorado fall is not the same as arizona monsoons or florida... just florida. Hot and cold will have a huge impact on traction.

Not seeing much love(if any at all) for the Nitto Ridge Grapplers. Any specific reason? As far as I can tell they're pretty solid tires for the price.

Our 2024 only has 1200 miles on it with the stock tires… I ran Cooper AT3’s on our Infiniti QX4 and Cooper has earned my business… excellent all weather tire. I look forward to putting them on our 5th gen (not sure if I’m going to burn the stock tires up or do it sooner)

Which stock tires do you have? Mine came with the Dunlop Grandtrek at20, and I ended up replacing them at 1300 miles because of the lack of snow traction.

Are those MR316s? I have same ones, but smaller tires. Those tires look HUGE!

Today's tires are all pretty good. I ran some BFG K02's for about a 1000 miles, good tires but to noisy for me. Kept making me think I had a wheel bearing going bad. I sold them and got the Cooper ST Maxx's due to having strong sidewalls and being QUIETER than the BFG's. I am very happy with the Coopers.upload_2024-7-27_7-15-55.jpg

At my local dealership they recently got in two new Land Cruisers and they had Ridge Grapplers. I asked my salesman about it and he said they came in from the port with those tires .

I've heard mixed, but mostly positive reviews on the Ridge Grapplers. One of our crew has them in 35's on a Japanese 80 series, and it looks glorious! He seems to be happy with them.

That sounds a lot better than the no-name generic tires on the Landcruiser I test drove. They had some negative offset wheels, or spacers, and these cheap looking granny all terrains sticking out of the fenders. I don't mind a little poke on aggressive looking tires, but it just looked silly to me.
