After reading this thread, I’m going to try programming my 4R. Crossing my fingers it doesn’t take a long time.

New guy here to this forum but not new to forms all together. So I did a search and found this awesome thread. Makes me feel like I'm not the idiot here, Toyota/Home-link are!!

Anyway, just wanted to revive this thread to see if anyone has had any luck finding the answer to this stupid problem. I have had issue with Homelink in several other brands of cars in the past too so I know it's really not a Toyota thing.

As soon as I win the powerball, I will buy out Homelink and fix their shit so it actually works.

For sure this method worked the first time on my 2023 ORP. I spent well over an hour trying the way described in the Toyota manual, glad I found this video!

We have a GENIE garage door opener system. The system is not even two years old yet. I tried numerous times to sync it to the system on my 4RUNNER. I finally gave up. It just wouldn’t work.

I ended up velcroing my GENIE remote to the driver’s door- it fits perfectly in that little elongated depression in the door panel below the door release handle. I can easily remove the remote thanks to the Velcro, and re-attach it back in its spot if and when I need to. So far, I haven’t had any need to detach it though. It’s working out great.

I’m back. I just watched that video posted above. That guy has a GENIE garage door opener, same brand as me. So, I thought I’d give his method a try.

I followed his motions exactly, even removing my velcroed remote from the door and holding it close to the Toyota remote buttons near the top of the windshield. Operated the learn button on the opener’s motor unit just like he did.

……repeated process three times over. NOTHING! Screw it. I’ll just leave my GENIE remote velcroed down in the shallow recess in the driver’s door panel.

Oh my heavens, you saved the day! My 2021 did not give me this much grief…. Programmed it from the learn button right on the motor in the garage and bam, it worked.

The 2024 I brought home today was giving us absolute fits. Thank you SO much for posting this… who knew it took a combination for it to sync up! Thank you x 1000!!!

Omg thank you for posting this. I just had to replace my garage door opener and couldn’t get it to resync homelink. Tried holding the remote super close and in different location to no avail. Followed this video and boom it works.

Can confirm the method in this video works with the Genie 7155-TKV garage door opener.

Edit: Just did the same procedure with my wife’s 2021 Highlander Platinum and it also worked. I could not get this to sync when we first got the car almost 4 years ago and gave up. This method worked first try.
