would like to know if 265/70R17 fit currently stock, 265/70R16.
    Dear all,

I like the new Toyota 4Runner rims which is 265/70R17. I currently have stock rim with 265/70R16. Has anyone tried installing stock Toyota 4Runner rim, 65/70R17, on 2002 4Runner? Thank you for any advices and experiences.

I don’t have the new rims but I have the stock 265/70r17 rims from a Tacoma that fit my 97 4Runner before and after the lift

Thank you. One more clarification please, are there any rubbings at all with stock before the lift? Thanks.

Yes. They fit just fine. I upgraded the brakes to Tundra brakes on mine while I was at it.

Stock Toyota 4Runners don't have rims, they have wheels. Rims are just the outer part of a multi-piece wheel, so no 17" rim will fit a 16" wheel. Stock Toyota wheels are not multi-piece wheels (including a rim), they are one-piece wheels (a complete wheel). So, no 17" rim will fit a 16" wheel, but that's not really your question.

You can upsize wheels, assuming the same bolt-pattern, but usually cannot go down in size. Manufacturers use a wheel that fits over the brake components, which are usually upgraded to larger sizes. So, if you have an older 4Runner, you can generally use a larger wheel, because it'll be more than large enough to clear the brake components. However, if you had a new 4Runner that came stock with a 17" wheel, you may not be able to fit a 16" wheel over the brake components.

Also, 265/70R17, is not a wheel size, it is a tire size. 265 is the width in millimeters. The tire sidewall height is 70% of the width (the 70 in 265/70R17), so the sidewall in this case is 265mm * .70, or 185.5mm tall. The wheel size is the last number, 17. So the tire is 185.5mm + 17" + 185.5mm (the other sidewall of the tire), or 7.3" + 17 + 7.3", or 31.6" total diameter.
