What Can I do with a Pro Rack?

    I’m taking delivery next week of a TRD Pro in Terra…I’ve been trying to figure out what use the roof rack originally served…tire up there? Toyota roof box? Thule soft storage case? Was it just for appearance?

    I know the truck has been around a while now and there are likely better roof rack options that are more versatile. What are the viable uses? Are most of you guys just removing them? That task seems pretty daunting to me based on what I’ve read on this forum. My apologies in advance if my post appears naive or trolling-like…just trying to figure it out.

    If you travel at all, you can certainly throw some totes up there. That’s about all it’s good for.
    They have low weight bearing capacity, and the small size makes them relatively useless.

    The pro rack is my least favorite feature that comes with the pro. I removed mine only a few weeks after I bought the truck and sold it for a decent amount of money that I reinvested in a more useful aftermarket rack.

    removing the pro rack is really easy, just make sure you have a heat gun to remove the loctite

    Being in the northeast, I would guess it collects lots of snow too. Was there ever any factory storage box that fits up there neatly? Any aftermarket?

    Do you plan on using the OEM rack for anything at all? If you don’t plan on using the OEM rack at all, then leave it be. If there are plans to use a rack, Like others have said, buy an aftermarket rack of your choosing, remove the OEM rack, install your new rack, sell OEM rack, done.

    Knowing what I know now, I wouldn't have bought a PRO. I have ended up taking all the PRO stuff off it because it sucks LOL

    The predator steps suck, the rack sucks, the exhaust sucks.

    It was a long time ago so I don’t recall exactly but i believe it was around $500-600. I was quite surprised actually how fast it sold at that price. And the guy was happy and couldn’t believe getting it for that price (I’m not sure if back then it was hard to get straight from Toyota? Also mine was essentially brand new so I’m sure he was happy about that)

    That's why I went with the trd orp. Almost everything that makes a pro a pro is actually pretty lame and usually gets replaced anyway. The exception is the grill.

    you also have dual zone climate, JBL, remote start, auto headlights and a few other things that come with the Pro but not with an ORP

    It’s the seat memory from the limited that I want on my ORP. I got old pro rims that I had on my taco, they look nice, but the OPR rims will be what I put my aggressive tires one once I wear out my current shoes. The JBL factory systems, I don’t believe they are worth the money. Never understood the dual climate, won’t both sides end up competing against each other?
    All that being said, if the right deal came up, I would have bought a Pro.

    I also do not understand dual climate. However, I do enjoy the JBL system. My Tundra does not have JBL and I can def notice a difference

    Xmas tree 1st coming home the 2nd time to the fire Co. recycle pile. I personally like them, but then again I had 2 FJ's W/basically same rack. In fact the 2nd one didn't come W/it & I ordered it.

    It’s the memory seats and ventilated seats that I want from the limited. I do like how easy it is to clean the softex though.

    I agree that JBL is not that great for a “premium” system but so much better than the standard audio that comes in the other 4R. I guess the 4R audio systems are really lacking generally speaking. IMO, the quality of JBL should have been standard in the premium trims of 4R and limited/pro should have got something superior to the current JBL.

    Regarding dual climate, it really depends who your passenger is. I never needed it until I met my wife. In the summer, I’m at the lowest temperature and she’ll put hers at 79. In the winter she has the heater as hot as possible and I have my temperature at 79. Life changing on long roadtrips to have the temperature YOU want (unless of course both people like the same temperature).

    I don’t see how each side can stay at the wanted temp, unless each side works against each other. My wife knows to dress in layers, I like cold.

    oh, I forgot about the ventilated seats, the air on my back was awesome.

    Ewww cool thread that I can lend some unique perspective on. I own a 2023 Pro (stock) and a 2015 SR5 that I installed a pro rack on. So I own two Pro racks.

    I’ve easily strapped a Roam (that big one) case to the rack, and driven miles at highways speeds with no issues. I’ve also attached a Thule cargo carrier (hard and soft) up there and driven miles with no issues. Both my 4R’s have sunroofs so the Pro rack being on the back 3/4 of the roof is nice, although I know some of the aftermarket’s account for sunroofs. I also like the adjustability of the crossbars on the Pro rack.

    Some great points made on this thread for sure, and I agree that it’s all about what a rack is used for and how creative the owner can get if they stick with a Pro rack. Cheers to 4R’s all!

    One piece of advice I’ll lay out there is to ensure the “screws” that hold the bottom section of the crossbar ends to the rack itself are snug and properly threaded.
