I found out the hard way don't lose count of how much fluid you took out when it's 115 degrees and you can't get your trans fluid to cool down to measure with the silly check valve. What a pain. I finally got it dialed in at like 3am when it cooled down. Crazy how sensitive the tranny is to fluid volume and temperature.

I have the intention of swapping tranny fluid tomorrow but that’s a weak intention because I’m lazy and it’s hot. The first time I did this on my Tacoma I found it to be pretty easy. I used the bucket method and flushed out 12 quarts.

Ah yeah I didn’t drop the pan on my Tacoma. I will if I ever get the deep pan and I’ll do the filter then.

Back in the day, I had one of these 'lifetime fill' ATF BMW. Transmission failed very early, @7 years and 60K. Swapped with a used from a crashed car, switched to synthetic ATF, and drain and filled it every 2 years. It was still working perfectly when the car was retired at 300K+ and 26 years.
