Hi all! Has anyone ever made all the plans in their head of what they would do to their 4runner and then once they got it rethought everything? Ha. That is happening to me now. I planned to do the bilstein/ome lift kit for a 2in or so lift with new wheels and tires. A trd grill, new lights all around. And now that I have it (06 limited v8 by the way) I find I really like the stock grill and lights and the way it rides. So now I’m thinking maybe just a body lift, not full suspension and new tires/wheels since I would be off reading very little. Probably for now at least, keep the stock grill and lights as well. Maybe update the fog lights with a diode dynamics kit. Thoughts? Happen to anyone else?

Mine is forever evolving…..it’s like a habitual hobby/ money pit. I don’t mind since it has been paid off since I bought it in 2011. If I feel like modifying or upgrading I justify it by it’s reliability and just do it and move on.

Stock size all-terrain and go where 90% won't. Nothing else needed.

I wouldn’t change the grill, the oem one looks perfect imo. I have an 04 limited v8. I have ditch lights sitting on my garage workbench waiting to be installed. One thing I did as far as lighting goes was swap out my clear fog light lenses for yellow ones, I think it looks better. You could also put in diode dynamics LEDs for all exterior lighting (license plate lights, side step lights, etc)… freshens up the look at night at least.

I just put on dobinsons ims suspension on my 4Runner on Wednesday, have nothing but great things to say about that upgrade so far.

Great point, there’s not much time to be off reading once you start modding your truck. ;-)

Seriously though, it’s what @Acesandeights said above. Stock 4th Gen 4WD 4Rs are remarkably capable off-road. It’s a shame that the myth of needing a bunch of mods to go offroad (pretty much anywhere other than hardcore rock crawling) probably keeps a lot of people from fully enjoying their rides. My YT channel is in my sig. I ran the 2018 Kentucky Toyota Trail Ride and my ‘07 Sport was essentially stock at the time. Did it on road tires too. Pic below is from the same time here in north Georgia.

Be smart about it and join a group like Venture Unknown (check them out on FB), but other than that, hit some trails!
