I thought I read somewhere that the limited rear springs are different. I can’t find any specs. Are they shorter, different rate?
I need an alignment and am going to add a 1/2” front spacer beforehand. Didn’t know if I needed to address the rear as well.

The 4x4shop I go to said the XREAS shocks are shorter hence they don't recommend lifting rear. If I'm not mistaken what they said was "Limited shocks are short so can't even take 1.5in lift in the back".

Please go to a Toyota specialist 4x4shop and XREAS are pretty fragile. If one shock leaks during the installation process it's game over. You'll be looking at a pretty penny at the dealer or replacing everything aftermarket.

This is not the way. You can change the rear springs easily on XREAS. Ideally this would be the best time to rip the XREAS off and redo them with better..

Best tool for XREAS...bolt cutters.. and a hammer. Send that shit to OEM hell where it belongs.

I’m not ready to rip the xreas out yet. I like the way it rides vs the other 4Runners I’ve had. I really only drive service roads and don’t do hardcore off-roading. I just thought I’d raise the front 3/4 to 1” before the alignment. I just didn’t know if I needed to throw a 10-15mm rear spacer in as well or use the stock rear springs from my 18 that are in the garage.

I would not touch anything and leave it as is then. If you havent junked the 20 get some 17 inch ATs instead.

    edit to add

the XREAs is shit on ripples, tar strips and mini bumps. I get what your saying as I have two limiteds on still with XREAs and one with KING. XREAs is good when its smooth but the other stuff small stuff...really challenges it. One way to help this is a bigger softer sidewall in the tire of going from the 20s to the 17s. I like driving my XREAs on the highway but for much else where the road is not like glass its not comfortable at all.

I switched to 17” wheels as soon as I brought it home. I had planned on getting rid of the xreas soon after but haven’t felt the need. I just wanted to raise the front a bit before the alignment. I just wanted to confirm the stock rear spring specs beforehand

Agreed. I wouldn’t touch the suspension unless you were ready to replace it but that’s just my opinion.

If you do get off road, XREAS will quickly start leaking. At least that was my experience. I don’t think they hold up well to the heat generated from washboards roads.

But it’s ok, because for the cost of fixing XREAS you can get a nicely upgraded suspension of your choice!

If you have a 4wd, your front is about 1.7" lower than the rear. You can only go about 1.5" up front before it starts messing with the front diff. If you try a 2 or 2.5" up front without a diff drop down bracket, you can feel it lunge and surge as it kicks into 4wd aggressively on slow bumps and pot holes.

If you have a 2wd, the FRONT springs are shorter, your front is about 2.5" lower than the rear hence you can run a taller lift to get "level"

If you want LEVEL you can run about 1.5" up front with zero worries, it looks "practically" level and rides nice.

If you want higher, you can run a 2.5" up front with a diff drop down bracket and the 1" Eibach rear springs which gives you about 7/8ths of an inch and this is "practically" level but taller. Anything higher than that in the rear, and yes the rear shocks top out on deep pot holes. Slow speed, deep holes, or crossing over ruts, you can feel the rear shocks top out as the suspension flexes with anything more than 1" higher in the rear. I actually bought the plastic 1" rear spacer and machined it down to 3/4" tall on two of mine with Xreas and ran a 2" and 2.5" up front on the other two. My current 2023 i have a 2.55" up front and the Eibach 1" springs in the rear which gave 7/8" lift in the rear. On extreme flex like a 6" tall curb at a 45degree angle, i can feel the rear shocks top out occasionally.

I dont recommend going higher than 2.5" up front due to the front end alignment, anything higher than 2.5 and you wont be able to get the caster right without aftermarket upper control arms. I dont recommend going higher than 3/4" in the rear if you dont want to have the shocks top out doing light parking lot flexing.

I found my measurements pre lift from my 2018 Offroad. Rear had the same measurements as my limited, so I guess the springs are the same or at least similar. Front of the limited is a full 1/2” lower than the 2018. I’ll probably throw the 1/2” spacer in that I have for now. If the xreas fails quicker I’ll just have to pick out new shocks sooner.

IMG_3307.jpg I removed my leaking 2014 xreas and replaced it was some OEM take offs from a 2023 trd off-road. I gained 2 inches of lift in the front. So yes the limited does ride lower. Also rear coils are much shorter also. Left is OEM limited and right is OEM trd springs
