2020 may come with a diesel v8

Just a few minutes ago, i was doing my usual lurking over on t4r.org and look. Anyone think he’s serious or is it just chicken feed. Im a bit gullible sometimes but I want to believe it. Im assuming it will be the 1vd-ftv 4.5 the land cruiser 70 series has

 

that would be amazballs! personally I'm in too deep on rig. At this point I'll live with my moded ride...I might consider an diesel swap down the road

 

Same bud same. But it would have to be extremely ugly, I mean pontiac aztec ugly, to deter me from that engine

 

that would be awesome.! that was one of the options I really liked about the Chevy Colorado ZR2 but I couldn't bring myself to buy another GM vehicle.

If there is any truth to that I would expect something closer to a 2.5 TD.

 

After doing some research im only finding that it’s going to be a 4 banger diesel like the hilux. Just google 2020 4Runner and you’ll get it

 

There is no way it would be a V8 diesel.

 

Are topic titles editable? If so, you should really change it to something like "A V-8 turbo diesel for the 2020 4Runner?"

Well, it's a lot more specific. There has been plenty of 4Runner engine talk on here about the 5th gen and its successor, so people are interested. Saying "is 'this' plausible?" could mean you're trying to figure out a way to add more cup holders to the interior.

 

Alright let’s see what we get now. I have enough cup holders with liners that come out with the drink so im good on that one

 

Diesels are never going to get us where we need to be in IPCC world of the future so don’t bet the farm on Toyota going that way. Toyota has tons of experience and technology for hybrid and so I agree with 4X4 Runner that that is more likely.

The wife wants a 4 runner, and we are trying to decide to wait, or look at 19s

 

There is no telling what Toyota is gonna do and most of the rumors are probably not true. It may not come out until 2021. If you want a tried and true vehicle that is extremely dependable, get the 2019, or wait till the end of the year and see what happens. They are cheaper at the end of the year. Point being you won't regret the 2019 unless you are someone that always needs the newest thing. Problem is with Toyota it seems that lately, the newest is not always the greatest.

 

Not 4runner 2020 news but still interesting-

Tacoma will have slight refresh with the headlights and teased by toyota to have power driver seats, there is a possibility of height adjustment coming with that.

Heritage Land Cruiser, adds some of the older badgeing from old LC. Social media does not show but their site shows a roof basket included but we will see at CAS

 

I think the 2020 4runner will be full time 4wd. It will have the powertrain from the new supra in it too. It will have a factory long travel kit with King Coil overs and King reservoir shocks. Falken will supply the factory 285/70/17's and they will be C load range. Just what I have heard so far on the internet.

 

If it's only a "slight" refresh, that means the Tacomas chassis will be the same for fifteen years! Ridiculous.

The only advantage of diesel is for the low end torque to pull or haul heavy loads, which the suspension of a 4 runner is not really up to, and for higher fuel mileage. A diesel engine will cost 5,000+ more initially, the maintenance on one is more, and in my area at least, diesel is at least .50 a gallon more than gas, so the better mileage is definitely a wash.

I have a 2002 Chev. Duramax with 97,000 miles on it. It seldom sees the light of day unless we are going somewhere in the 5th wheel, which is not that often, or I have something heavy to move.

From a practical and economical standpoint, I just don't see the appeal.

Yeah there is no way the 4runner is getting a diesel. If it gets anything fancy it will be a hybrid configuration, but it's most likely just going to get the Camry motor that is in the Tacoma now.

 

I keep hearing bad things about those engine/transmission combos. Not sure if it’s a real problem or just a few coincidences but there are a lot of posts on Tacomaworld to do with the 3rd gens powertrain. Surely they wouldn’t bring that over to the 4Runner. I’m not sure why they started using it in the Tacoma the 4.0 is a great platform.

Toyota already did a press release about the 2020 Runner at the Chicago auto show last month.

The only changes are adding Toyota Safety Sense and a new head unit with Apple carplay.

 

I'm high AF right now and I could still see through the bullshit in that article.
