I just installed a 10 inch Kenwood floating screen and she sure does shake just driving down the street. This isn't going to work off roading my wife and I are already calling it.

It also rattles against the metra dash unit. The plan there is to put felt tape or maybe thin foam tape around the head unit to get a tighter fit on the metra dash fascia, but I don't know.

The other thing is the Metra dash kit included a bracket for the head unit which is made of plastic. Plastic. Plastic......so it's going to inherently be more bouncy than metal.

Anyone here deal with this with any success?

I'm probably going to go back to stock screen or some sort of in-dash screen is what we're already thinking.

As good as that Kenwood is, the 10 inch is a little too big for the space in the 4runner. It covers most of the vents and does not sit flush with the dash due to its enormous size.
I have seen one in person installed and it did have a lot of give to it. But the car was stationary so I am not sure how much of a wobble it had while moving.
The rattle can be taken care with the foam tape though. From what I understand, the owner added some foam pieces at the back in and around the metra adaptor so that the screen does not have a lot of space to move.

Does the HU use the same 4 10mm mounting bolts for the dash? If so, perhaps it’s the way the screen attaches to the HU. I have the Sony XAV-9500ES and there is NO screen movement, at all, that is detectable. There is no rattle either.

I used the OEM metal brackets for mounting my headunit so the Metra dash kit just supporting itself.

Yeah same 4 mounting bolts but the metra mount is plastic.

The screen mounts with a very solid metal bracket and 6 screws. It's very solid.

Pioneer DMH-WT7600NEX junk. I have a Sony XAV-AX8100 from Trailgrid Pro to install for when I'm not lazy and it cools down here.

Not sure the dash kit they used but I had my local car audio shop reinforce it for my off roading. Super solid and has been good on all my off road adventures since 2020.

    Kenwood DMX as well.

It should not shake, is it just the screen or the whole head unit? You should yell at the installer. lol
